Hey there all you sports minded riders. I hear that "shafties can do wheelies" so my question is what gear is best. 1st gear from a dead start and nail it hard? or second gear with a rolling start?

Anybody done a stoppie on the FJR?

Stoppies are the most fun! Especially when I'm wearing my shorts, tank top and sandals. :D

This should work.

The best gear for wheelies is a full face helmet, leathers and suplemental body armor. Depending on where this is done a bail card may be handy too.

Hey, serious questions, serious answers :)

Shafties can't do wheelies in france, dude. It's a well known fact.

If wheelies are your thing and you've done them before, you'll have no problem doing it on the FJR. It's not my thing, but, I have inadvertantly lofted the front once or twice. I swiftly pulled over and gave myself a slap on the wrist. 1st gear from a rolling start, get 'er above 2500 rpm and grab a handfull of throttle (and cover the rear brake pedal). Don't know about clutched wheelies...never tried 'em. 2nd and 3rd gear wheelies over hill crests are simple, too. Wouldn't dream of doing stoppies with that much weight.

Just read some of your other posts and see that you might be on one of the european hp-restricted models. If so, disregard the above.

Got that straight, first time was unexpected and quite scary really!! On the last bike with a passenger, third gear would lift off if ya wern't careful

both 1st and 2nd are good for wheelies. 3rd requires some aggressive stuff and low altitude. The FJR wheelies easier when 2up and loaded. You wouldn't get me to try a stoppie on an FJR. One problem is that the tires aren't rated for that weight and the likelyhood of wobble is very high. I've never seen, nor heard of a stoppie on the FJR, and something tells me the first one that succeeds at it will also crash.

There, I actually answered your question honestly. That said, I sure hope this is not your primary concern regarding the FJR. It's not really purpose built for stunt riding, so why bother riding an FJR like that?

Yeah, I've wheelied and it actually holds a 5" off the ground wheelie from 1st through second really well. That said, out of 40k miles I have probably only wheelied about 10 times. Not really a big deal, any bike with this much torque and HP can do it...heck, even the R1200RT can wheelie ;)

There are some pictures out there somewhere showing Randy Mamola doing some amazing wheelies on an FJR. Actually getting the front high enough to drag the pipes!

I don't recall an stoppies but he'd be the guy to do it.

:jester:

There was a fellow at EOM pulling wheelies. Last I heard he blew his front seals an went home early (first day). To much weight

Is this going to turn into a seal clubbing event? Don't get us eskimoes all excited fer nuthin' now, ya hear?

Where'dja find seals in Ab alama, fencer?
Seals are easy to find at the Zoo. Harder for them to run away as well.

I went to SpeedFreak's house to do some wrenching. Afterwards we went out to rip up Island Pond Road (curve carving). While bombing the road I noticed that I was constantly lifting the front wheel, even exiting corners which was exciting. Then I remembered the tool kit I put in my trunk
