OK, Let's keep this one non-Political and definitely keep religions and such outta this one. Thnx!

So here's my (new) water cooler talk...

If you could only ride in one State, which one would you choose?

I'm certainly not picking my own State as others might here (as NY State is just too limited). I'm (so far) favoring WV, I've had motorcycles my whole life but only the last 4 have been in Sport Touring. So, I'm a rook compared to most here (as far as great Sport Touring roads and places visited go). An overwhelming vote on a State may have me (and maybe others?) visiting this State and those locations. So Post up and why you think your suggested "State" is the best for M/C riding.

So let's say this is... "A Bucket State List". :)

Cheers and keep it nice fellerz ;)

+1 on NC or WV...but have not ridden out west, some nice scenery out that way...from some of the photo's I've seen.

Montana.

Many great rides both on and off pavement. Parks, mountains, forests and prairie. Speed limits are reasonably high, gas is cheap (2.93), population is low and summer temperatures are generally reasonable.

If you broaden your riding area to about 600 miles from my home it includes most of WY, the Black Hills of SD , ID, southeast British Columbia and southwest Alberta. Motorcycle Heaven. Jasper NP , Banff, Lake District, Glacier Park, Yellowstone, Lolo Pass, Bighorn Mountains and many more.

I hate to blow the horn of my own state, but Washington is the best place I've ridden. . . because we have everything a rider could want. Twisties through forests. Twisties through mountains. Twisties through canyons. Twisites along river valleys. If you like cruising the Interstate, we have I-90.

I try to ride in a state of clear mind and heightened awareness...

#2 Utah. I'll let someone from Utah tout its many virtues.

I was brought up riding on the east coast. There are some wonderful places to ride, but for the most part the east has become over populated, over policed and has too much traffic. The good places to ride are often discrete locations separated by not so fun stretches to ride and with low speed limits strictly enforced.

Utah!

It has it all. Fast, long desert stretches to explore the FJR speed envelope, twisties galore in many places, stark beauty as you can visit 5 National Parks in 6 hours (I've done it), adventure motorcycling if the tarmac isn't enough for you, and light traffic except for a small portion of the state.

My favorite road in the country. Hogsback near Escalante.

Colorado is probably a runner-up, but I find their speed limits artificially low and LEOs to be a wee bit hard-nosed.

Best for what? It would be easier to determine what the best tire is

.

SoCal is one of the best for good weather and therefore good for year round riding. I like Colorado because I have good memories from when I used to live there. If you are talking about natural beauty, I think maybe Washington (on the day of the year when it's not raining).

Can I change my vote? There is still a LOT of UTAH i haven't ridden, but thinking back on the NAFO trip I really enjoyed the roads we were on +1 on Hogsback!

Let's see... From my house it's 1.5 hours to UT going the speed limit, 1 hour to WY, and 1 hour to MT. And I'm already in Idaho. I'll stay right where I am

If there was a state called Appalachia.... that would be it for me. Even better would be middle Applachia, but I haven't been everywhere.

The great part about the FJR and being in the U.S. is we don't have to choose a single state. I'd have to say California has the best density of great motorcycle roads encompassing coastal, canyon, mountain, valley, desert and off-road of anywhere in the country, and year-round riding. You could spend your lifetime riding CA and not cover everything it has to offer.

Taking trips through Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, Washington can really expand the horizon. I now live close to WV and some good eastern riding I look forward to exploring, but I need the snow to melt.

Ride in? Right now at this point in time? (Weather wise)FLORIDA

Nope not at the moment or weather related, but overall.

So if you were in a witness relocation program (hopefully not) and had to be confined to just one State and left with just your bike, what State would you select? If fog and rain are too prevalent in one State, it could make you to select another i suppose.

But overall, not "at the moment" stuff.

It's a secret. I rode 150 mi. yesterday morning and saw 13 cages. Most of my ride was above 6000'. The state had a population growth of 1700 last year. We like it that way.
