I searched and I read the owner's manual. I apologize if I missed it somewhere. This is driving me crazy.

What is this for?

seriously, you have to check the FAQ for things like this. pretty much all these kinds of things are there. the reoccuring threads is a good read anyhow and gives you alot of good information.

good luck!

to be more specific, go to New Forum Members and open the FAQ. scroll down to item #1.

but definitely read on...i've had two FJRs and still read the FAQ every now and again.

OK, I had read everything at least once and did lots of searches, and I knew I must have missed it somewhere...

Now, what the heck is a "U" lock, and do I need one?

Nevermind, please don't answer, I'll find it somewhere.

Under the newbie FAQ:

1. Under the pillion seat are two rubber bands. They are to secure a "U" lock.
I'm afraid I don't accept this explanation at face value. OK, I now know what a "U" lock is, but I still don't see how that rubber band would secure one. And, what about the other of the "two" rubber bands? I only have one. Where did that authoritative answer come from? It's not in the owner's manual.

What did you do with yours?

Throw it away?

Keep it there to make sure that the bike is still complete when you sell it?

Keep it just in case you need it sometime, even though you really don't know what it is?

Maybe it really is the "power band". I mean, it's got three elegantly designed clips to hold it in place just so. It must be really important.

It's the TOW STRAP!
In case your FJR ever becomes disabled and needs to be towed somewhere. :)
Wow never knew that! :good:

Bet thats prolly the only part of yer scoot that ain't all dinged up eh? :blum:

:jester:
Naaahhh. Lost that silly rubberband a long time ago.

But, here's one fer ya anyways..........

:****:

Persuasive evidence that the two bands are for a U-Lock:

The round bungie-thingie holds the U part of the lock and the flat band holds the center of the lock. PDF catalog.

:p

Thank you, ionbeam. Now I believe. The second rubber band (the flat one) is currently holding my tool kit. I see that it was not originally intended for that purpose.

JimLor,

Any evidence that it helps hold the passenger seat on?
