Hi fellas,

I was wondering what kind of helmet you're riding with?

Me? Well, I'm having a little tick on helmets, general rule, I LOVE flip up's.

Here are the ones I'm currently using:

Shoei with custom paint scheme:

My Scorpion Exo900:

My Torc 22:

Why so many? Well I sweat a lot, A LOT and don't like to hang my bowling ball in to a sweaty helmet, so I swap.

Which one do you like best? Not shown, that would be the Schuberth C3, but with a whooping $1200 incl. intercom system, this helmet needs some TRUE negotiation skills with my CFO, since she would want one too, would take away mods money for my projects... so I'd choose the Scorpion, than the Shoei and lastly the Troc.

All helmets are cool, but the Scorpion delivers the best, low buffeting, good ventilation, I was able to easily install my intercom system Scalarider G9, got the sun visor and comes in high vis. The Shoei is a brilliant helmet, but a tad noisier. The dis was the Torc, the integrated intercom system is nice in the beginning but over time the voice quality deteriorated badly, rendering it almost unusable.

Shoei (old RF800) for winter and Bell MAG-9 for summer.

I have a Bell Revolver but must wear earplugs with.

All shoei for me. Fav = Qwest 2nd fav = RF1100, then Multitec, then X12, then X11. Also have a RJ Platinum (open face)

I find that lately like the modulars too. Just too damn convenient. I have an HJC CL Max now, but I really can't recomend that helmet. It's just too flimsy.

I plan on trying on a Scorpion EXO 900 very soon. I've read all about them and all of the customer reviews are pretty positive. They carry them at White Horse Gear, so now all I need to do is take myself another ride up to the White Mountains, like I really need an excuse for that! ;)

My Shoei X-11 gave up the ghost a few days before EOM 2011 last year. As it was my only helmet and I needed something fast for the trip, I hit up the local, 60 miles away, Cycle Gear for a new one. I had intended to get the Quest, but they were out of stock in my size. The sales guy, who really was impressive with his knowledge, thought I ought to take a look at the RF-1100. About a half hour later, after a lot of debating, I walked out of the store with a new RF-1100, having received a very substantial discount (IIRC, I paid $376, tax included) and a promise that I could return it if it turned out I didn't like it. Well....I love it! A very comfortable helmet with nice deep plastic recesses for my SMH-10 speakers. It's relatively quiet (better than the X-11 I had) and has great visibility out of it. I wear an LD Comfort skull cap with it and wash the lining every so often.

I figure my next helmet will probably be modular, but we'll see.

Yeah the EXO is a great helmet, I like it a lot, especially the less buffeting and ventilation is a big plus. Always good to have a reason to ride, isn't it?

Arai Quantum II. I use Motorex Helmet care to keep the liner smelling nice. I only have one bucket. I like the Arai, for it good fit, airflow, comfort and low weight. Also the visor on the Arai can be opened just a little bit about 1/16 of inch or less. Many helmets open 1/4 inch and not less - I don't like that one bit - yes I am a helmet snob.

@Fontanaman,

Thanks for the hint with the helmet care, well I use skull caps and let my wife do her magic

Nothing wrong with standards, I kind of like this 1/4 inch, can't have air enough, been in service and had to put that darn NBC mask on way to many times, ROFL, so I'm a tad bunker weary on that department.

Being a fussy about my helmet I have never warmed up to skull caps. I tried a bacaclava a few times - did not like it.. As my hair goes away maybe the things will fit better than before. As I ride more I may have to give the skull cap another try for the stink a few times was quite unpleasant - as if I need another damn distraction when I am riding. A couple of them on the road would be the ticket to a cleaner bucket.

I have tried to find a modular flip up helmet but so far no luck. Either they are heavy, the interior is not comfy, don't vent well and in general don't entice my interest.

Well I hear ya, in re: stinky skull caps..... I have a ton of those, they came off of eBay for a dine a dozen and are easier to be washed than a liner. Yeah those flip ups can be heavy, it depends though, what I like is the more room you've got for your face.

Since I've got a bowling ball shaped head makes a huge difference

The Schuberth Helmet I wrote about, the C3 as a flip up is just perfect, the lightest, quietest and most comfortable I've ever had on my head. But their price asking is also yeehaw... So I'm still pondering about it, but before I dump 2K in two helmets (cuz my CFO wants one too) I'd rather spend it on the Penske/GP mod from KFG for now...
