That was a bit of a day. I'm making a recommendation to his high exalted grand poobah of the CBA (Carver) that Wheatness be removed as a card carrying member immediately.

Go Wheatness and Airboss!
+1, Gunny! That was one hell of a day's ride through really crappy conditions, Good Work Guys!

Well they're up and rolling. Weather looks better for them this morning anyway, no wind but temps in the 20's in the high spots.

This is kinda like following the IBR.........kinda! Go boys! :yahoo: stay safe.

Well, I'm generally opposed to just yanking someone's membership, but I'm afraid these two no longer have membership qualifications. Riding in cold rainy conditions mixed with hard winds for 1000 miles, especially without heated gear, is NOT the kind of member dcarver's CBA wants representing its membership or principles.

Looks like they should have it a bit better today. First, that stretch of mountains is purty, and probably a little more interesting than I-80 through Iowa and Nebraska. Second, the weather looks considerably more tolerable. Here's the hourly forecast for Vail (looks like they ought to be there around noon, Mountain time) on two sites:

https://www.weather.com/outlook/health/airquality/hourbyhour/USCO0388

https://www.accuweather.com/us/co/vail/81657/forecast-hourly.asp?fday=1

And finally, some Candy Butt ***'n conditions in Grand Junction this afternoon:

https://www.weather.com/outlook/health/airquality/hourbyhour/USCO0166

https://www.accuweather.com/us/co/grand-junction/81501/forecast-hourly.asp

Go fer it, boys -- yer officially riding out west now!

Well they are passing through Dillon now after going through the Tunnel. Wish time had allowed a trip over Loveland Pass on US 6, that is a great scenic, and not far out of the way.

I was thinking the same thing at first. Then I considered that it looked like it was snowing there yesterday afternoon and evening. Those spots on that road that are in the shade in the morning might have still been slippery when they went through.

In July yeah, but not today. Denver was rainy and cold this morning (mid 30's) and Colorado DOT has Loveland pass listed as icy. The Eisenhower tunnel and Continental Divide had to be friggin' cold too! Looking at CDOT cameras, plenty of snow still on the side of road. https://cotrip.org/ro...?zoomPresetId=7

As they head west, looks like skies are clearing and warmer temps. Life should be good!

They're in the Glenwood Canyon area a very cool stretch of interstate. looks like the temps are in the 70's when they come down the hill into Grand Junction that is gonna feel real good after such a cold morning.

Between Wheatie's SpotWalla and DenverFJR's link to the traffic cams along their route, you could watch them ride right past.

If you need a life, anyway.
Buckwheat and Alfalfa are now in Glenwood Springs. SacMike is right, I just saw Wheatie lift us his faceshield and pick a booger; Son of a Gun, I think that Mark ate it!

Airboss to Wheatie: "All right, that does it! We're stopping for lunch in Glenwood Springs before you embarrass me again."

Looks like they stopped for gas, and maybe a burger. It also looks like the poor *******s are suffering clear skies with a few clouds, mid to high 60s and a mild breeze now that they're well over on the west slope -- to get warmer as they get further west. :)

I did this drive moving back to Calif. from Boulder in a '58 Dodge truck 37 years ago (almost to the day) -- a really nice day for a trip through really pretty country that I can still visualize as if it were only a few years ago.

"Hey, Cousin Don. Old Uncle Rich is telling that story again. Next, he'll be shouting at his nurse, and exposing himself to the orderlies."

But all seriousness aside, the Midwestern Motorized Mookfest should be on easy street until they've reached the Golden State, where we're suffering through a brutal

light drizzle and bone-chilling 60º wind chills.

Brother Michael, as much as I would like to comment: I can't, I'm every bit as senile and demented as exskibum Rich is! Something about "Glass Houses and Rocks"!

Well, then, to continue:

The mushrooms having taken full effect, my traveling companion in the car behind and I stopped to roll some of that low grade ganja for a quick smoke along the Colorado River between Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. And it was then that I noticed the ol' Dodge come to life sonically. With no radio, only the roaring of the engine and wind were there to sing. And so it was -- amazing how much fidelity became apparent in the imagined performance of "Happiness is a Warm Gun" by that ol' Dodge as it rattled and roared in perfect time and amazing harmony.

Onward we went through Grand Junction and into Utah, the clouds streaming eastward at altitude, far above us -- just like a Roy Rogers movie. For a moment or a hundred, I imagined that childhood holster and sixshooter, Trigger before he was stuffed, and many happy trails. And the song continued on: "haaaaaa-ppi-ne-e-ess . . . is a warm gun . . . yessss it i-i-is, . . . mama . . . "

:p
