For the last few months Ive been thinking I want a sport touring bike probably a fjr

Ive had a license for 37 years have owned lots and lots of bikes both for pleasure and to resale and worked for a yamaha shop twice and suzuki once ridden lots of Harleys but never once ridden a sport tourer. lots of cruisers ujm's and pure sport bikes and pure touring. looking to spend up to 8000 cash mabey more but no shop or individual will let you test ride without buying first. Ive not a problem with that per say but afraid I wont like it and then I hear the words sorry you just bought a bike!

Where do you find these factory demo rides? our shops never had one but we were also far from the big citys.

And btw I do not like R1's GSXR'S at all. Im too old Oh and btw I just have trust and fear issues handing a total stranger 80 hundred dollar bills cash to hold on to. but I can understand situation from his side of things too! Sugestions?

The next demo event is the Lone Star Rally in Galveston on December 6. Yamaha demo events are posted here, or for all outdoor events here. You are looking for ones with the Street Motorcycles.

Most individuals will let you test ride with a deposit to cover the cost of the bike if you take it or drop it. I sure would, especially if you had insurance and a letter from your insurance that said you were covered for damages and liability during a test-ride.

My first step after deciding I like a bike is to find one to sit on. In a perfect world a test ride is great, but still you can tell a lot about a bike just by sitting on one.

1. Sit on the bike - Do I like the bike now? Yes - move to next step like finding a test ride.

No - move on to next obsession.

I remember on time thinking I wanted a Vaquero. Just sitting on it told me I didn't. Didn't even have to worry about lining up a test ride or looking for a deal.

FNG thanks for link And Dan Ive sit on lots of them in last the month Thats how I found out the concours was not for me

Find a dealer that is selling a used FJR.

Look for a motorcycle rental. I just rented a BMW K1600GT and put ~2.5K miles on it. I sure know this model bike well now ;)

I live in the North Texas area also, (Ft Worth), bought my 2010 model in August of 2013. Dealer offered me a test ride without even being asked. I arrived looking for a good used Honda ST but found the 2010 FJR sitting next to the ST and there was no turning back. Test ride was about four miles and sold me on the bike. It had less than 3,000 miles but I've added a bunch since then. Dealer is Freedom Powersports Hurst, 877-275-5230. They recently expanded and have been a great service center. They have a superb website that lists their full inventory of used rides. I've seen other used feejers there often.

Best of luck to you!

Welcome to the forum. Best part of owning an FJR is this forum. Every nut and bolt, every possible repair and every extra farkle you might want to add is documented in these pages. Videos, how to's, advice, insults, we got what cha need. I agree with the sit on it idea. Even if'n yer not real happy with the factory seat, there are many aftermarket seats offered up used on this forum for cheap. Things like bar risers get the bars a little closer, etc., so remember that when ya sit on one if it's not JUST right.

Ha-we'll even show ya how to put a car tire on it if'n ya wants to take a walk on the darkside.
