Good point. I will keep that in mind. Decisions, decisions. I'm trying to pull everything together all at once. Got my risers coming in, got a rear rack to bunge my sleeping bag on, now the Ipod decision!

Wirelesswill, one of the guys on VFRD compiled a bunch of photos of different remote control options for the IPOD that you guys might want to check out. Coincidentally this is the same guy who was just involved in a cage vs bike crash a couple of days ago and is now hospitalized.

IPOD REMOTES

If you're using a 5th Gen, this may be an option

I keep my iPod in my breast pocket of my 'stitch, and have an AirClick remote mounted to the left mirror hole on the bar. The AirClick gives me access to most of the iPods controls including volume. With the ear buds I use, I've got full portability. B)
Clickie for Airclick
The Airclick kicks ***!! Put the Ipod anywhere :yahoo:

I velcro'd my airclick remote to the top of the clutch resevoir.

How is Wireless? I'm so sorry to hear about him (or anyone for that matter) getting in an accident with a cage. Almost lost my husband Monday. He and my daughter were in Portland riding, she made it thru the intersection with no problem..as husband was turning a car flew up over the hill and into the intersection and almost clipped him. He saw it coming and hit the throttle just in time. Glad I wasn't there to witness. I would have taken his riding privileges away.

Back to discussion, I loved Wireless' link with all the different choices. I had no idea it would be so difficulty to pick. Plus, I'm not real educated on these things. Just got my first one for Christmas and have the daughter teach me everything. I'm old and a little slow at the electronics stuff but I do catch on eventually. However, Everyone keeps talking about generations. I just got mine so would that be a 5th generation? Anyway, Thanks for sending the link so I can check it all out. I think I found just what I needed.

And let us know about Wireless' condition.

JDog, where did you get that awesome tank cover? I love it! Yes, I may just put the Ipod in my tank bag and get on with it. On the other hand, I really liked the remote idea.

That there is a bagster, mucho denero :dribble:

Someday when my ship comes in...

+1 AirClick.

I do think the AirClick uses a fair amount of power even when not using the remote

that much.

Mine seems to drain the IPod in about 3 hrs and I dont use the remote that much.

I decided on the Ijet. Ordered it and received it two days later. Great service. Put it on the bike today and went for a ride to see how well it worked with gloves. Loved it! Thanks everyone for the help.

My IPod was in the map sleeve on top of my Cortech tank bag today, where I can tap the control wheel thru the clear plastic. We had a great ride from the Oregon City area, thru Estacada and down to Detroit Lake. Great windy road and I loved listening to The Who rock out with "Tommy" and then some great AC/DC.

I ran for about 10 hours last Sat before my battery died on the way home. It was on for at least 8 hours with the AirClick installed and running. I keep my back light off all the time, and usually tap the pad through my 'Stitch to advance songs. I do have an aftermarket battery in my iPod tho, may be the difference. Clickie for Link B)

I got the Ram Mount box with the waterproof clear plastic cover. The thing is huge and does protect the ipod well, but the Ipod locked up about 60 miles out. Apparently there is too much vibration. Anyway I recharged it this am and all is well.

Big Letters to catch everyone's attention!

I recently bought an iJet wireless remote similar to the others shown above at radio shack for $10 clearance.

It comes with a belt-strap type clip for the remote, which clips handly onto the cuff of my right jacket sleeve. I can then access the controls with my left hand while riding, and it's not permanently affixed to the bike. If you DO want to go that route, the belt clip has holes to screw-mount it, and the remote clips in and out of the belt clip.

I'm taking off on a trip May 4th and want to use my Ipod. Not sure what to do with it though. Any suggestions? should I mount it on the handlbars? wear it on my clothes? HELP!
Before I built my electronics pod ( https://chornbe.com/motorcycles/fjr/electronics/ ), I just stuffed it in a jacket pocket and used the Griffin Air Click remote. Now it's mounted in my pod and I *still* use the Air Click remote.

Crutchfield's sells one that lets you advance playlists as well as single songs. Anyone try that one?

You got a great deal on the Ijet. Mine wasn't too bad...I shopped around a bit before deciding on who to purchase thru...but I certainly paid more than you! I made a velcro holder for the clip...have it on the handlebars. I'm not mechanical but can sew just about anything! Plus, the clips on mine didn't seem to hold on to the remote as securely as I wanted. Anyway, I'm ready to go...just have to work 2 more days and then I'm out of here!! Of course, the weather up here has been wonderful until the rain started today! Oh well...we'll be heading south thru California so figure I'll ride out of the rain eventually! And a day riding in the rain is a heck of a lot better than a rainy day at work!!

The Airclick has dropped to $11.50 on Amazon.... cheep! :D
Just be careful, that's for the model that only works on the previous generations of iPods. No new Nano's, no G5 iPods...

For those you need the Dock Connector version, which is still around $30

Thanks, I didn't see that anywhere on the product description....
