I haven't gotten prices yet, but I'm certain that they will be quite fair. I'm just tired of saying "I'm going to get an FJR" and so I'm getting one. This weekend. This is my way.

Choices:

New 09

New 08

Used 06 (was told it's low miles and in good shape, but haven't gotten details, shop was closed today)

I guess my question is if there's any difference between these model years that might make one more desirable than others. I believe these are all Gen 2, but other than that major difference, is there something else I should know about differences between these?

If there's no difference, I was thinking about the new 08 because I suspect that there will be a nicer discount to get it out of the shop. I need to weigh that against the KBB value of an 08 I suppose. But I dunno, other thoughts? I can't imagine that the insurance premiums would be any different between these choices. Maybe tiny bit less on the older models for the comp and collision?

To me price would be the deciding factor. There are virtually no differences in these models. I would seriously look at that '06 for the potential discount. If it is truly low miles, I would have no worries (check that recalls have been done) as these bikes are fairly bulletproof. But that's me and I'm cheap.

I'd probably go for the '08 and then spring for a first gen ('03 -'05 & '09) clutch slave cylinder. I like the silver wheels and silver trim on the '08 better than the all black '09 and it's likely to be less expensive. Sounds like you get a brand new bike with either, and I'd be buying it to ride 'til it won't go no more, rather than for resale.

Personally, I don't like to buy used bikes so that would rule the '06 out for me unless it was a very good deal. I prefer the wheels on the '08 over the '09, and it should be selling at a better price, so that's the one I'd be looking at.

Kitty,

You may want to check if their is a Carryover Y.E.S. warranty on the used bikes you are looking at.

This is 800-962-7926 the Yamaha Customer Service number in case the Seller/Dealer does not know if it does or not. You would just provide them the VIN#

Good Luck with your search.

+1 on the wheels and when I was looking 6 months ago, a new 08 was about 1,500 cheaper than an 09.

I have no problem with used rides and then SkooterG's 219k miles ought to relieve you about how far these things will go. If the '06 is half the price, well, it'd work for me. Besides, I like colors more than trying to keep a black bike clean. But an '06 is more likely coming to the 25k service that means valve adjustment, probably a throttle body sync, and another set of tires. If so and those aren't factored in, I'd be all over the '08, especially since you ought to be able to get the YES with it.

All are good but , the 2008 is the best value at this point due to inventory. The 2006 is fine, but most people add the G2 to smooth the throttle out , and Yamaha did it in starting 2008. I would not rule out a good deal on a Gen I in good shape either if I could find one. In some ways they are better.

I would go with the '08 for reasons talked about above, and the (twitchy) throttle has been improved on '08's.

I see HP beat me to the punch.

Go for the '08 which leaves you some extra cash for: new seat and/or better windshield and/or rear trunk.

Have fun deciding.

I wanted an AE, after looking at different FJRs (new and used), I realized that I love the Cerulean Silver, and am not afraid of going for a used bike. So I just did exactly that and got a 2006, 18k miles on it, but well taken care off, and it already has tons of major farkles (incl. the G2 throttle that Bob mentioned above) for a VERY fair deal. In my mind I'm far ahead of the curve.

But then, I also really like ShinyPartsUp's answer. Short, sweet and to the point.

08 wins. Too good a deal to pass up between the warranty and the price.

I dunno, maybe some of you are girls, but I was kind of surprised that so many boys were so influenced by color. I didn't give a crap about that unless it were something hideous... I think it's black, but honestly, I am not certain.

Should be picking it up Saturday.

First off, congrats on the bike!

Second, so you calling me a girly man or something because I personally don't care about trying to keep a black bike clean looking? :assassin: B)

You'll love the bike, no matter what color.
