When I grab a handful of front brake, I hear this neat-sounding whirring or whizzing sound. I thought it was just that the brakes are far newer than what I was used to on my goldwing.

As a test, I took off and once in 2nd, gave it a shot of gas up to around 60, then popped-it in neutral and hit the kill switch so I could listen to it while coasting.

Same sound, just more subdued. Then I grab the brakes and the sound amplifies noticably. Someone please tell me I'm just a stupid noob (hell, I'll settle for ********) and this is normal, SVP!

In case it isn't, that's why I'm posting it.

It's normal. ********. :yahoo:

You are undoubtedly hearing the hissing sound produced as the rotor holes pass over the pads. The latter are always in slight contact with the rotors, and this results in the hissing sound you describe.

It's your rotor holes.

I noticed it when I installed my new rotors, some times after installing new brake pads you'll hear that sound too. I can now take the card out of my spokes.... :p

Cool - I actually like the little whizzing sound. Sounds really tight. Just wanted to make sure I won't be riding along one day with my daughter on the back and my front wheel falls off
