Just curious why so many are not taking their bikes, alot of people changing their minds. What has changed since you ordered?

The bike deiveries are so late you get frustrated and buy a Honda.

Dunno, but I can tell you it took me a while to become acclimated to the FJR. But now that I have been riding it for a couple weeks, I really am starting to like it more and more.

One thing that made a huge difference for me was getting my GPS and Intercom and Ipod installed on it. I had my other bike all set up for audio and GPS and Radar etc, when I got the FJR is felt awful naked. Once I sprinkled some gadgets on it, it sure seems more rideable.

I am enjoying how light the bike feel compared to my GL1800, and really like the way it handles. But it did take some time for me to adjust to it, but now that I have, I am glad I got it.

I really think the answer is obvious. When you have to commit to buy something that won't be delivered for as much as 6-7 months in advance, sometimes your financial situation changes (or maybe doesn't change to the way you had hoped!).

Maybe a job situation changed, wife got pregnant, wife left you (for the father [lol]), you hoped to have your ratty old (your bike here) sold first and it hasn't - many reasons.

I thought maybe people were backing off from the purchase, because of the few quirks (Instant MPG, etc...) Waiting for Yamaha to correct them, and get a bike that does not need to be (Fixed, Recalled or TSB'd)!!!

Impulse/uncertain buyers who have not previuoulsy owned an FJR read the forum and focus on the rather rare unfortunate circumstances of a few and then begin second guessing themselves. If these bikes were generally available at the dealrships so new buyers wouldn't have to jump into the unknown I am sure they would feel better about thier selection.

John,

I know all about Impulse Buys!!! (Model Helicopters)!!! That is what suprises me about current retailers, if they would just have it on the shelf they could sell alot more stuuf on "Impulse Buys"

You mean like the work horse of the gold Wing. Oh, they had a heat recall and frame breakage. things that make you go hmmmm. Or a Buell, everyone of them built had a fix or a recall for some reason or another. Or the BMW rear end failures, people still buy them. Want me to go on, and on and on, I could. Look in MCN at all the problems you wouldn't be able to hardly buy a bike that worth riding. So a few quirks are for the newbie to worry about, major failure is a reason not to buy. After the tick how many unit have still been sold? Outsold all other sport tours put together maybe. I would say this reason holds no water.

Everybody backs out of deals when they're given a long time to 2nd guess it. Nothing unique to the FJR.

As a searcher for a new 06 FJR, I can tell you for absolute certainty that the vast, vast majority of pre-orderers are taking their bikes. I've been on the phone with dealers for several hours over 3 days. I've stopped counting the number of dealers I've talked to. I'd say that statistically, the percentage of pre-orderers who are actually taking delivery is approaching 99%, and possibly higher.

Don

edit: thought I'd add the actual statistics from my search. I stopped counting dealers when I reached 35. Some dealers had distributed 5+ FJRs, some 0. I'd say the mathematical average was greater than 2. I found 1 abandoned FJR out of (conservatively) 70. That's an acceptance rate of 98.6%.

I think people just get fed up with waiting. In 2003 I ordered a Honda ST 1300 with ABS. I got tired of waiting on the ST 1300 and started reading about the FJR. I got my deposit back from Honda and ordered the FJR, and I did have the patience to wait on it - I'm very glad I did.

I just see alot of bikes in the dealers, and Alot for sale with very few miles. Seems like every dealer I have talked too had extras because of someone backing out. And this was not the issue last year.

SkooterG,

Is it something personal about me you dont like, or did you just forget your PROZAC! I think I ask legitimate questions, and all I get from you is Smart-A$$ Answers!!!

I'll bet a lot of those bikes are not pre sold and are ordered in by the dealer and he uses the excuse someone backed out and this is your lucky day, I just happen to have one that someone took but didn't like. Real translation, I ordered in a ficticious name and test rode it knowing they aren't put on the showroom and I know I can sell it at retail plus fees.

There was a definite demand for them here in middle TN. Dealer got 3 of them in around 2:30 PM on a Friday. One sold over the phone. The other two, which included mine, were sold, according to what they told me, by 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Fred H.,

I second that notion about the FJR, "I really am starting to like it more and more."

Rain stopped around noon in my part of the country yesterday. By 6:00 PM the sky was pretty, roads were dry, humidity was low (relatively speaking), and the temperature was nice--bout 60 degrees F. The road beckoned and I answered. Rode to the top of a local mountain for the scenic long-distance view. Then back down to the base of the mountains following their contours for about 30 miles. Then headed home. Total trip was about 60 miles.

I know that’s not much of a trip for those of ya’ll that are veteran street-riders. But I just got back in the game and I sure got a lot out of that ride. Thought about OVAL, FJRoc, & TWN’s videos. Will have to get the equipment someday and learn how to make and post those.

Geez, Todd, how long have you been reading threads around here? Most of us are full of "smart-alecky" answers. Rad, TWN and SkooterG just happen to lead the pack, head the revolutionaries, appear as rebels without cause, stir the pot, etc., etc., etc.

In your original question, did you happen to be thinking of any "hard numbers", or just reports that there are bikes available? Have your questions been answered by other postings? I've been away from the "Forum" for the last week, but my elder, fading memory is attempting to recall only a few who have decided not to receive their bikes and they posted the reason. IIRC, 1 had a job change, 1 had a wife who was with child, 1 had a dealer who added costs (shipping, assembly, etc.) so he took his business elsewhere. I don't remember anyone posting that he was afraid of the computer glitches, heat, tick or any other alarming reason posted or opined here or on any other FJR site.

What does that have to do with '06 orders? Most aren't even delivered yet. And yes I agree about the used ones all over. But did you notice that most are '05's? I still haven't figured that one out yet.
