Yesterday, I met up (again) with a county Sheriff who previously pulled me over for speeding. He let me off then with a warning that time because he also had an (identical to mine) FJR as his personal bike (ST1300 is his patrol bike).

This time, he just wanted to chat about farkles and I was glad to oblige the 5 minute conversation. (He did not comment about my new radar detector and screamer which went off loudly when his partner nailed a speeding car as we were chatting.)

We traded cards and said it might be fun to ride together.

My question: If I ride with him whe he is off duty and accidentally (excessively) exceed the speed limit, will he ticket me? Or will he keep up with me and smile wide like I do?

I'm sure I'll ask him directly before we ride together, but perhaps some of you who are brave law enforcement officers can help answer this question.

Will he ticket you? We wouldn't know that. Ask him.

Would I? Hm... I'd have to get to know you a bit better first. Of course, maybe I could just accidentally/excessively write you a ticket! :p

That other place

Last one I rode with cuffed me and stuffed me. Cost of the bribe to get out was a beer and a brat.

Lessee.. Last time I exceeded the speed limit with a group.....

Oh yeah. Two County Sheriffs Deputy's, one State Police trooper,County Prosecutor and our District Court Judge..

Judges GPS said 138 mph at some point. Didn't see any tickets and got a "get outa trouble if you didn't do anything to bad" call me card from the Judge.

:jester:

Your answer wins. Law enforcement officers have big balls and I would not expect them to pussyfoot around on such a capable machine.

This is probably your chance to get out of any ticket if you get pulled over while he is with you. As said, let him lead to get a feel for it. If he's blasting, you're good to go.

Got LEO's in the family and they all speed in their personal vehicles.. they just show their badge when they get pulled over and they are good to go....

My riding buddy ,, his buddy ( a highway patrolman) , and I went riding once...

he tried to keep up until the sparks started flying off his HD floor boards...

when we stopped he commented on how smooth we rode the curves..

My son-in-law ( cop ) was driving my caddy on the freeway a couple weeks ago..

commented on how slow the other traffic was going ,,, then looked down at the speedo.

It was set on 100 ,,, he said, oops ,,, the car really rides smooth...

( he has a governor on cars,, it's call the floor board)

I shoot with several cops,,, good guys ,, they put their pants on like everybody else,,

except they can get away with bending some of the rules a little bit when off duty...

Let the LEO lead ,,, if you get pulled over ,, let him talk ,,,

my riding buddy, a local LEO, does 135 on his FZ6 on uninhabited hwy 51 with me in the chase.

a fellow PGR RC, a detective, wear's his Blue Knights vest on missions, and leads on I-10 on the Achafalaya Bridge, doing 85 in a 60. State troopers eyeball him going by, see the backpatch, and just wave.

just sayin'

Lesse..

I lead a ride at WFO 6 and we had couple LEO's with us.. one even commented that a RDR caught him off guard with his RD went off, Said, "I remember you telling me there was a security car transmitting up on the left, but it still made me hit the binders when it lit me up"

I said, "GOOD that was my only chance to get past you" **I passed him in triple digits on "Suncrest" and that sucker was fast,,, he took it back *i* **
