the windscreen fuse has blown twice now in the 2 years i've owned the bike. once, i can attribute maybe to a fluke. twice tells me there's something going on to cause it to blow the fuse. anyone have any ideas?

thx in advance.

oh, btw, is there a connection (pun intended) between the windscreen and the "glove box"? after the fuse blew, i thought maybe i'd tossed an extra fuse in the glove box, but couldn't get it to open. i didn't think it was an electrically-controlled device, i thought it was just mechanical, but it worked fine once i replaced the fuse.

dean,

Check the rubber weatherstrip on the upper fairing at the screen slots. Maybe it has come loose (like many others) and it is jamming up the mechanism, causing fuse to blow.

I have a gen I and some time ago, I've had intermittent fuse blowing (can't remember which) but found out the wire harness coming from the ignition key had been frayed due to friction with the triple tree. I wrapped the harness with electrical tape and wireloom protection to fix the problem.

Fuse blow because current going true the fuse is bigger than the fuse rating.

1) Make sure you have the right rating fuse

2) Motor is pulling too much current

- Something in the way

- Bad motor, if it is that, I will be worst with time, it will pull more and more current

3) Short on the wires, live wire short with the ground

4) Water in the motor housing

Hope this will help !

Simplest thing first, I would check for binding in the mechanism because of interference with neighboring components.

+1 All good advice. Make sure all parts are lubed (if needed), clean, no binding, correct fuse, etc. Possible windshield motor issues too.

Possibly the rubber bits in the slidy thingies coming ungluing and scrunching up?

Glove box is locked when ignition is off, turning on ignition moves a solenoid that unlocks the box. Not sure if it's the same fuse, but seems likely.
