When in the lowest position, do the windshields on these bikes move a lot (front to back) while traveling at speed. Mine seems to flop around a lot when in the low positions but the movement is reduced as the shield is raised and stops completely when in the highest position. This is especially true when riding in windy conditions.

Also, do any of you notice any rattling or clunking from the shield when traveling over bumpy ground when it's in the low position?

I am going to go with no to the a lot. Some follow up questions:

1) Does it move at all when you are not moving. I am not talking flexing, I mean the screen moves while the screen supports do not.

2) Is it the windscreen you hear rattling or the w shaped plastic that covers the windscreen mounts?

Evening JohnB.

I have the same 'floppy' windscreen when it's in the lowered position. Had the dealer take it all apart and they couldn't find anything loose to tighten up ... so it still has ~1 inch flex to it. <_< My buddies 04 and 05 don't have the problem so it's something Yamaha changed to accommodate the revised windscreen.

If you find a solution ... I'd be all ears.

For V65 ... The screen and mounting frame all move. You can see the linkage move when you physically flex the top of the screen.

1) No, the screen doesn't move independently of the support.

2) No, I don't think it's the windscreen rattling. If I touch the vertical part of the W shaped plastic frame on the right side, it fits tightly against the screen. But, on the left side, there is some play between the screen and the vertical part of frame. I think this is probably where the rattling/clunking is coming from. Is there a way to tighten this up? How is the W frame attached to the support?

I see in NovaFlyer's post that he has the same "problem". Yet if this is common to all '06s, why don't you have it?

Greetings NovaFlyer.

Your post indicated to me that this was a quirk of the 06s (It's not a bug, it's a feature). But, V65's 06 doesn't seem to have this problem.

Does yours have the same loose fitting plastic vertical part of the "W" on the left but not on the right like mine?

My 06 screen suffers from the same movement when in the lowest position. Also firms up as it rises to the highest position. This is more prominent when riding at slower speeds on a bumpier than normal road. As my speed increases the wind pressure holds it in position. Seems to be an issue more enjoyed by 06 owners.

My windscreen has some play in it, also, and I think the four screws that fasten it to the bracket on the inside of the screen are loose. To tighten those screws I will have to remove the blue W shaped piece on the outside of the screen as it covers the screw heads. Has anyone removed this piece? I assume it must just snap off but I don't want to break something if I am wrong.

Raise your windshield all the way up and look underneath it. There are two allen bolts that hold the cover on...don't pry it off

Thanks SoCalFJR. I found the screws and removed the cover. Tightened down the windscreen and all is well again. :)

Saaahhweeet!

Glad I could help!
Yes. Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try tonight or tomorrow.

By the way, is that your '57 ? Now that is Saaahhweeet !
I found the screws and the one on the bike's left was only half way tightened. I tightened it fully and the play in the "W" on the left side is gone now. I'm sure this will get rid of the rattling on bumpy roads. Thanks!

I also moved by bars back while I was at it ...

I have noticed that my 06 has a lot of play in the upper supports, not the screen. Specifically, when down, I can lift the screen and the upper supports move a good 3/8" allowing the screen to move a good 1 1/4"

Like I said, the screen is tight against the W, it is the supports that are loose. Is this fixable? or is it normal?

Mine has a lot of play as well. I suspect it is normal but if someone else has a fix for it I am all ears.
