I have a FZ-1 fuzeblock installed on my FJR and would like to use it to power my Stiebel air horn. Even though the FZ-1 has a relay built into it, am I correct in assuming I will need a second relay up front to activate the horns?

I haven't done this mod myself, however if I understand things correctly from what I've read I would say yes you need a second relay for the horn. While I believe it isn't required it is highly recommended that you use one. I'm sure someone else with a greater understanding and knowledge will come along and answer. But in the mean time I'd plan on using one

Yes, need a second relay - that's what turns on/off the horn button opening/closing the circuit which powers the horn juice that's connected directly to the battery with a high amperage fuse (20 or in my case a 30 amp fuse).

Let us know how and where you mount the horn as I have a second horn button already installed in the clutch side switch assembly and already have a fuzeblock and fjrRandy harness, but am scratching my head on how I want to mount the horn. I have Gen I with stock horns I don't want to lose, and a superbrace fork brace and worry about how I can make it work infront of my "beat up" radiator and radiator fins. I've even considered mounting it where a tip over preventor is on the outside of the plastic after I get crash bars or R&J sliders mounted on the engine mount bolts. The TOP's are bolted into a frame hole where the tupperwhere would have a mounting bolt. Some cruiser types even have the horn mounted on a peg bracket somewhere in plain view. I'm not against a neat install in plain sight. I think I'm out of room on the handlebars, though.

Well, let us know and anyone please chime in with suggestions, thoughts, etc about the wiring and mounting

(don't mean to hijack the thread; I can start a new one)

Cheers,

This is how I am planning on installing my horn https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?s...utilus+install#
yep, seen that before, and very creative; like it alot and should work like a charm as it did for FJRandy (I guess he sold himself the harness)

However, I'm looking for somewhere else as I want to keep my stock (actually replaced Fiamm disc horns) located horns and horn button to them. I'm gonna mount the air horn somewhere else with it's own button.

When I pull up to your house at 6am, I can beep beep the stock horns. When the 18 wheeler on interstate crosses the white line, I can blare him good with the air horn.

let's ride safe and be careful out there,

OK, done :lmaosmiley:

I mounted my Stebel horn under the lower triple tree:Harald's Horn Install

Because I'm not as considerate as others, I ran it in parallel with the stock horns (all blow together using the factory horn button).
thanx, I saw that and it's creative and a good install for non fork brace Gen II

I'm not at all sure it would work on my superbrace fork braced Gen I

I can visualize a fork brace, but have never seen one on a FJR. If you have the horn, you can hold it in position and visualize whether it'll work or not. My bracket holds the horn basically vertical in front of the radiator which gives it good clearance to the fender behind where it goes through the forks. I'll have to take a closer look tonight (no FJR in the lot at work because the kid came to work with me today and he doesn't have heated gear).

Hope this helps; more pics in my flickr account under FJR groups shown; see my signature below.

Radiator is old style and flat (not curved on Gen II)

I didn't think about the straight radiator. <_< That might limit what little clearance I have on my Gen II bike when installed on your Gen I. I'm guessing you might have to go with the FJRandy mounting.
