Without side bags.

There is no doubt that an experienced rider would notice the difference. I have ridden the FJR without the bags and I can feel the difference without a problem. If you can't feel the difference your probably just not riding that hard.

Actually, that is the safest way to centerstand your bike. When you drop off the centerstand while standing in a slippery mess... Well, you get the picture.

Oh, and to keep this on-topic, went for a ride without the bags today. And since mine are never empty, I definitely could feel the difference in left-right-left transistions, such as quick zig-zags through traffic.

I normally leave the side bags home and I do feel the difference in handling. I am probably an average FJR rider in terms of experience and skill. FWIW, I have Wilbers suspension front and rear.

Those few pounds may not be a high percentage of the total weight but it is noticeable to me.

Yeah, you can feel a slight difference in feel and handling but there's a bigger difference in feel and handling when you have different levels of fuel in the tank. You don't notice it much when you're emptying the tank but when you fill up (from a fairly empty tank) it's pretty noticeable.

I've been thinking of yanking the side bags and leaving the top box on. I use the top box all the time since it's much easier to access and my stuff won't fall out when I open it. I never use the side bags unless I'm going on a trip.

I took my bags off, to do a skills workshop and felt a noticeable difference in handling. Now, I'm trying the top box instead of bags. It's easier to access and I have more confidence for lane splitting.

The box looks dorky though. I like the look of the bike a lot better without.

I definitely have noticed a difference when I ride without the bags. Especially since I normally ride around with about five pounds worth of crap in them.
