Holy COW! Had to hit the hay last night, and work all day today.

I'll respond to all the thoughtful comments in a bit, here, but

first I'm going to finish this thing and get the rest of these pics

posted.

So, I stayed on ONE all the way up, and it wasn't easy- having to pass all

of those great roads that head inland back through the coastal mountains.

I even resisted the urge to run into Guerneville and wade into that lesbian

hornet's nest. Without back-up, I thought better of it.

Here's some of the stuff a fellow sees up around Mendocino, Albion, and Ft. Bragg.

I was wishing I'd packed my lime-green speedos.

Irish bonsai. :D

IMG_1088xxx.jpg

And finally, my destination for the night...

IMG_1083xxx.jpg

The shallow-water Navy boys. Do these guys ever actually leave the harbor, Rich? :D

IMG_1084xxx.jpg

I "stowed my gear" (sailor-talk) at the motel I'd chosen (the Hilton "8"), and rode a couple of miles

north of Ft. Bragg, to McKerricher State Park, to get some photos of the day's end.

IMG_1090xxx.jpg

They've a long boardwalk out to some headland, and a couple of platforms where

folks can sit and watch the big orange ball disappear. I wandered around, made a few

short videos, annoyed some little sea creatures in the tide pools,

and stared thoughtfully out over the Pacific sunset, ...thinking

about what flavor beer I'd buy on my way back to the motel. :p

IMG_1101xxx.jpg

Who'd have guessed?!!

IMG_1118xxx.jpg

Oh, and I ate dinner here...

IMG_1413xxx.jpg

Mothers, tell your children, not to do what I have done.

It was friggin' terrible. Roast beef something-or-other, and three bites in

I realized I'd made a mistake. I didn't even want to waste any pixels on it.

Okay, in the morning, I'll be heading back inland on Hwy. 20, and then home.

I'd have covered your play against the ***** Legion there Brother Mick!

Hell Man, together we may even have converted a few of the Lickers!

A Great Ride Report OM, I don't care what Bokerfork and Rich say!

And to think I let my best lamb go without *** to read all this tripe tonight!

You Micks are so fuking insensitive ya know? ;)

Sunday morning, after mass, and an unremarkable ham'n'eggs brekkie at the coffee shop

(Perko's) across the street, I rode around the area for a bit, taking some photos,

and hoping it would warm up quickly.

(I'm kidding. I didn't really go to mass.)

Another FJR had checked into my motel the night before. We chatted briefly as I was heading

out. He was familiar with the forum, but had had an encounter with Sacramento Mike, and

swore he'd never go back. I'm just here to observe and report, ... not to judge. :D

(Anyhow, he had an '07, so it's not like he was a serious motorcyclist.)

A few more pics of the Ft. Bragg vicinity.

IMG_1122xxx.jpg

What a ham, huh?

Niehart was born in the back seat of one of these.

Did y'all know that?

IMG_1146xxx.jpg

This place had some groovy things in the window. Can't believe they weren't open

@ 0730 on a Sunday.

IMG_1147xxx.jpg

Seriously. Glass jellyfish lamps. Neat, huh?

IMG_1153xxx.jpg

IMG_1157xxx.jpg

djbill! Look at this thing!

IMG_1168xxx.jpg

We should tow it to your house, and fix it up.

IMG_1167.jpg

IMG_1169xxx.jpg

Okay. Time to head east, and back to the valley.

Highway 20 was just fantastic! Dry, clean, twisty, and beautiful.

I highly recommend it.

Now, I'm not one of you barn freaks, but this one was especially groovy.

Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to frame it (goddamned trees)and get a decent picture, but,

... you get the idea.

All too soon, I was to and through Willits, and heading south on 101.

Then down, east again on 175 (Hopland Grade - dicey, mud, gravel, bumps -

not a good January road), to 29 (Lower Lake), up 53, and across 20 to

I - 5, and an express run south to home.

Only got a couple of pics of all of that,

... but I did sing a lot of songs to myself.

Hey! Who can ID this little goober-lookin' car?

(Surprised it's not sporting New Brunswick plates.)

IMG_1455xxx.jpg

And home in time to catch the second half of the Packers whipping up on

the smelly Bears.

IMG_1467xxx.jpg

Thanks for looking in.

Why....that's a mid-60's Saab.

Exactly what one would expect to find on the far-left coast! ;)

Attention, Mark, you'll have to find your own "lycra ladies" when you come to visit. That's one thing we aren't sharing. :bleh:

MadMike is correct, that is a '60's Saab 96 (actual year unknown to me). Interestingly (to some) it was powered by a 750cc three cylinder, two stroke engine that produced a whopping 38 hp. I only know these things because my father had one when I was a young tike. He even had the predecessor Saab 93, which was totalled in a collision with a forest rat! Believe it or not, the 96 design was built until 1980! It was actually replaced by the modernized Saab 99 in 1968, but Saab continued to manfacture the 96 until they came out with the car that finally put them on the map in America, the Saab 900.

That is your Saab lesson for the day. There will be a quiz at the end of this thread.

Again, kudos to OM for completing his excellent RR and not leaving us hanging!

I don't eat oysters.

IMG_1024xxx.jpg

Strangely enough, I've spoken to a number of women who've you've dated, and all of them wished that you had eaten oysters.

No **** Sherlock, Niehart was conceived in the back of this 1946 Chevrolet roadster, not a 1956 Bel Air hardtop! Not exactly sure if the top was up or down though!

"Niehart was born/conceived in the back seat of one of these.

Did y'all know that?"

OM & MM2 are both wrong. Now my kids....

That little mid-60s sucker would never survive 15 years in this salt-infused snow / slush / s**t.

(Anyhow, he had an '07, so it's not like he was a serious motorcyclist.)
And, oh yeah ...... OM? :****:
