hey, this centerstand is tough!!! i think maybe the problem is the technique. I am 6'2" 240 and played linebacker in college but this centerstand is kickin' my rear.......any helpful hints?!!!!!!!!

 
There's some good advice in this thread from last summer. Here's what I do:

There are previous posts on this but bottom line is square the stand up with the ground. and stand heavily on the foot press while pulling up on the handle. It's not the pull up but the aggressive step down. Easy and no strength required.

Yeah, if it ain't just poppin' up yer doin' it wrong. I have a bad back, and some days can't reach my own shoes, yet I've never been unable to deploy the centerstand.

Of course, if the owner's manual actually hinted anywhere that the handle is there on the left side under the seat, life would be easier.

Hey come on over I give personal lessons on how to use the center stand, of course you will have to ride to Woodland Ca. :drinks:

With all due respect, either you've never known how to use a center stand, this could be your first bike with a center stand, or you want a real good dogpile. If the aforementioned is true, try tcfjr's clicky, and you have my deepest apologies. If not....

Just lift it up with your manly arms and flick the stand down with your left toe.

Works for me.....and I'm a certified olde pharte.

Once you figure out the technique you will kick your own bad self in your hinder parts...it's really that easy. First time I put the FJR up I nearly threw it through the garage door. Compared to the C-10 Connie this one's simple.

Seriously, find the grab handle (under the meet pint of the rider/passenger seats) lift up and stand on the center stand. Make sure the garage door is open...... :rolleyes:

 
I'm 5'6" and 160 w/gear and it goes on the stand fairly easy for me. I'm wondering if your height may actually make it more difficult. The handle is pretty low so I imagine you have to bend down some to use it. Once you figure it out you'll say "duh".

I'm 5'11" and 155lb's. Sinse the bike is so heavy I don't ues the side stand when I'm getting ready to put it on the center stand. Instead I just step off the bike keeping it leaning slightly toward me. I stand facing the side of the bike with the bike leaning slightly against my left hip. The whole time I am holding the left handle grip with my left hand. Then at about the same time I step down on the center stand until it levels and also grab the side hand hold with my right hand. Then with one smooth motion step down on the center stand and pull up with you right hand. For me it's not so much pulling up on the bike to try and lift it as much as it is I'm trying to add waight to my foot. In fact I believe all you are really doing is steadying the bike and lifting it with the foot lever. Bottom line......What ever works!

 
Left hand, left handle bar grip...right hand, bike frame hand-hold. (Hands are mainly for bike balance but you'll find your right hand pulling upward a little to counter the downward motion of your right foot.)

Get that sucker level with both center stand points in contact with the ground...put your right foot squarely on the stand's foot grip and downwardly stomp on it like your crushing an old beer can. Do it decisively with a fair amount of weight commited to it. Pops right up.

It helps to have a hard soled shoe/boot. Flipflops suck.

Bike in neutral. Left hand, left handle bar grip...right hand, bike frame hand-hold. (Left hand is Hands are mainly for bike balance but you'll find your right hand pulling upward a little to counter and toward the rear of the bike to assist the downward motion of your right foot.)

Get that sucker level with both center stand points in contact with the ground...put your right foot squarely on the stand's foot grip and downwardly stomp on it like your crushing an old beer can. Do it decisively with a fair amount of weight committed to it. Pops right up.

It helps to have a hard soled shoe/boot. Flipflops suck.

To which I will add: Once you get the feel for pushing down with your foot while lifting up & back using the hand hold, located just in front of the bag, the FJR will pop up on the center stand with almost no effort from either your foot or hand. If I were to stomp on the center stand as suggested above my FJR nearly leaves the ground and slides backwards on the stand. When your foot and hand work together synchronously it is like a spreading action opening up the bike. :blink:

 
6'5", 210 lbs here. I had trouble trying it at the dealer, but once I got her home I figured out I was using my toe/ball of my foot to step down instead of my heel.

Once it's centered on the stand (you can kind of feel this), just hold on and stand on the center stand with your heel and it should pop right up.

I'll second that, I just bought my FJR after 10 years owning a C-10 Connie and the first time I put her up on the CC I nearly launched it backwards...(the connie for all her glory is a BEAR to get onto the CC :) )

Just to trow in my 2 Cents... I mounted a 30mm lowering kit as I'm not comfy when both feets don't touch ground. What I noticed is that it was IMPOSSIBLE to put the bike up when the stand hits the ground an inch earlier. I didn't have a problem before.

So I decided to change back to standard ride height - but couldn't get it on the center stand anymore and it was so low the jack didn't fit under the exhaust. :blink: But that's another story. I wonder what effect a shortened center stand would have. Should make the bike fly up.
