I’m in the market for an ’04 ABS FJR. My first choice would be to find one located in Southern Cal, although along the West Coast or in the Southwest within a day or two’s riding is within reach.

Here’s my Wish List for my ’04 FJR ABS – while I would love to find “the” bike for me that already has it all, I’m ready to look at anything in the ballpark

Clean, no damage beyond the usual rock dings, etc.

Excellent running Condition

Break-in done in by knowledgeable adult owner

Cared for as if it was to be kept for a lifetime.

Extended Warranty, either Yamaha or well known company such as Western Service Contract

Clean TitleOriginal Owner

Givi Rack for topcase

Avon Tires with good tread remaining

10,000 or less Mileage with plenty of highway miles

Wired with easily accessible relay controlled fuse block

Cockpit Accessory Outlet

Heated grips

Ram Mounts for both left and right accessories

Cee Bailey clear or Yamaha Tall Shield

Cruise control

Windshield auto retract disabled

Heat mods completed

Never down or dropped

Realistically priced for quick sale

You might as well get everything you want on the 06 model, except for the Avon tires, which I don't understand why you would want. They have problems of wobble for the FJR's. If you talk with the guys at Mission Yamaha in Irvine, they will treat you well, and usually get extra FJR's in early in the year. Also many of the Farkles are easy to install yourself and you can take your time installing them at your leisure.

Hi -- neighbor, I'm in Laguna Hills too.

I appreciate your suggestions, but I'm not ready for an '06. I'm selling my K12RS to get an FJR, and have limits on how much money I want to put into the "new" bike.

I'd also like to wait and see what Yamaha does with linked brakes. The ones in my VFR are barely noticeable, and hopefully the new FJR brakes will be the same way, but I don't want to be the first to find out.

I haven't experienced a wobble on the two FJRs I've ridden with Avon tires, and one of the two was at freeway speeds. Maybe the wobble varies with individual bikes?

I think the wobble is only at very low speed. I've noticed it a bit on the rear Avon but it's really a non-issue. Good model choice. Great color. I'd like to help, but mine won't stand up to your rigid specifications. Been dropped once, and I ride it like I stole it. I also plan on keeping it at least until the YES expires. Good luck. I'd suggest looking for a 7500+ mile bike from out of state as well. That's how I got mine!

Those aren't really specs, just a wish list that I'd love to find all on one bike.

(I underlined Wish List in the original so it'll stand out now.

SoCalRider,

Someone traded in an '04' on a WR450 a couple of weeks ago at the dealer here in Cheyenne. It had 7200 miles on it. Not sure who the previous owner is. I could find out more info if you'd like or give ya the dealers number. It hadn't been washed when I saw it so I don't know what kind of shape it's in. Wasn't any obvious badness to it though. It was kind of funny really. It was sitting outside the shop with the other used bikes. And the key was in the ignition. So I think they still have it! :D

Thanks wyowags -- any info you could find out would be great, even if it's just the dealer's no.

Bet it's a little cold for a ride home from Cheyenne right about now, though!

What do you consider "realistically priced" ?
Well, it really varies with each bike based on mileage, EW or not, aftermarket stuff and the age of that stuff (if you put on great aftermarket shocks, but put 20K on them, they're not worth full retail, etc.), but here is the text from a couple of recent Cycle Trader ads -

Realistic --

2004 Yamaha Fjr1300, Excellent. 4500 Miles, Rifle Sport+2 Windscreen, Gen-Mar Risers, Frame Sliders, Throttle Meister, New Rear Tire. Respectfully Ridden By 43 Yr Old. Garaged. Priced For Quick Sale! $8,995

Not so realistic --

2004 YAMAHA FJR1300, ABS model, 125hp touring rocket, only 3k mi, selling, sadly, best bike I've ever had due to disability,Not Garaged$10,400

(I added the "Not Garaged" since when I called him, he said he was tired of looking at it sitting in the driveway.)

SoCalRider,

The number for Cheyenne Yamaha is 307/632-4075. I'll do some checking and see if I can find out who used to own the bike too. Shoot, it's a heat wave here today! Only started off at 8 below this morning! 20's this afternoon, t-shirt weather!

Thanks wyowags! If you have a chance, it would be really great if you were able to find out anything about the prior owner.

Be careful and don't get sunburned!

SoCalRider,

You've got a PM. The only way I'm getting a sunburn at this time of the year is if I go skiing!! ;) Heard on the Denver news this morning that Steamboat has had 9' of powder in the last week. Oooooooo....
