My rear rotor is warped or something, giving me a grabby rear brake.

Anybody got one laying around they are willing to sell for cheap?

FJR is an 04, but I am pretty sure any year will work.

You know, it's not that bad. I don't notice it at high speeds at all. When I notice it is when going fairly slow and I can feel the rear 'grab' a bit more once every revolution of the wheel. Also can hear it when just spinning the wheel while on the centerstand. Been riding with it like that for several thousand miles now. It's just an annoyance more than anything.

3-5 are the same. 06-09 are the same

This is a spare set of wheels I bought a couple years ago and didn't use until recently. The rear came with the warp, or whatever it is. My guess is the rotor got warped during a tire change by some tool putting too much pressure on it?

I know the rotors look different between the two generations of FJRs, but I am fairly certain all dimensions are the same and you can use either.

Hopefully I'll find one here. Otherwise perhaps on ebay.

they have diff part numbers 04- 5EL-2582W-00-00 and 06+ 3P6-2582W-00-00

I do not think Yamaha would go through all the trouble just to make few extra bucks. Later is 16 more on the MSRP

I might be wrong, but didn't they increase them in size?

 
If you are not feeling it at high speed I wonder if it really is warped.

First best would be to confirm it with a run-out gauge.

Next best would be to scrub the rotor really good and very lightly abrade the brake pads to remove contamination. Your symptom is more consistent with contamination on the rotor or possibly heat damage to the metal that caused a hard spot. I have seen similar symptoms with cars, where someone parks with really hot brakes and then sets the parking brake leaving the shoes pressed against the really hot drums.

wow. I am sure it works. But is it worth compromising your safety?
I wouldn't do it with a cast iron disk because they would crack, but it is no problem with these. A straight disk is safer than a bent one. The one pictured had a runout of 0.066". I straightened it to within 0.004".

 
Mine warped as well. $123 from Tony O at the Sportscenter. Replaced the pads and redid the seals in caliper too. Some things are just not worth worrying about.
