I bought the Yamaha extended warranty on my 04 ABS, just before the initial 1 year warranty expired in August 2004. I have had no problems but bought it solely because of the tick. The dealer did tell me that if I'd let the 1 year waranty expire, Yamaha would NOT have agreed to sell the extended warranty - even at that exorbitant price, so I think they have/had some concerns about our beloved FJR's...

If you go to the Yamaha Canada web site, they offer absolutely no informatiom whatsoever about their factory warranty for any motorcycle. That's right, Yamaha in Canada does not give *any* information regarding the exact nature, terms and or conditions of their factory warranty policy on their official web-site. I can't think of any other major motorcycle manufacturer's national distributer which is as shifty and elusive as Yamaha Canada.  Based on the fact that they can't give you a straight answer on something as simple and basic as what warranty terms/conditons they offer, I rest my case: do not implicitly trust Yamaha Canada or any of their dealers. Get it in writing from Yamaha Canada.
They do however advise you to take your bike to the dealer if it makes odd noises, to find out if it's normal, which many are.  Unbelievable.
I brought this up with my dealer. He agreed they don't have any detailed, legal type document describing warranty terms. He did go on to say that they never have a problem getting Yamaha to back any repair that isn't the result of normal wear and tear. Also that I could consider the extended warranty no different than the 1st year coverage. Again take this FWIW ... this was just verbal.

Still I agree an owner should be able to request a clear warranty description in writing. I might ask him again if he could look into it a little deeper.

All I ever saw, found, read was a 1 year warranty.

There always was a pricey 3 year warranty but I didn't go for it.

If my 04 ever ticks, I will fight to get it repaired on Yammy's tab.

No worries for me and mine is 2 years old in April.

National politics and the need to pay for all those "free" services, d00dz!
The government has nothing to do with it and I would love to hear about the so-called "free services" that I am missing out on.
