Way to underwhelm Yamaha. They are going to loose ground quickly. Some bike designs are moving way too fast and they aren't keeping up.

What designs? Which ones compete with the FJR? I haven't seen any changes to the ST, Concours, or others in the past few years. Maybe the new VFR counts a little.

The market as a whole is seriously slowed.

Been saving my pennies to upgrade to something good! But, I now see that I have the identical bike with the

Prettier Cerulean Blue Silver Paint, that came with the Headed Grips AND I have a Trigger Shifter!! I think I'll keep her! :yahoo:

I tend to agree with those of us who say it's a Tall Order to try to improve on something this good!!

I am suprised it's still here as well. Two years ago I spoke with Yamaha and offered to buy all their silver paint. I got no answer. I guess they already had plans for it.

No matter what, if I lost my 05 today I would buy another FJR tomorrow. It's still what I want in a motorcycle.

By the way, I see PDP is back for the "new" adventure tourer that has been in Europe for a year. Does that remind you of anything?

Yeah, +1. If I lost my bike tomorrow, I'd probably buy another to replace it. And yes, Howie it would most likely be a 1st gen. But mostly because I know the bike well and could transfer all my farkle-ishous goodness directly over. Plus, they are actually cheaper to buy!!

But would I try to upgrade any existing FJR to some FJR "gen 3", or a Concurse, or any of the other competitors for that matter?

Uhhhh.......... C14? K1300GT? VFR? SprintGT?

Think your off on this one my friend. Not that the FJR still isn't competitive as is, but several models have upped the anty in the last 2 years with significant upgrades.

BTW, to remain on topic...as long as they keep making them I'm happy. I will need to replace this '04 sometime in the distant future, and '04s are starting to get hard to find...so maybe a newer one will be in order when I have to pry this one off my hands.

I see they are bringing the XT1200Z to this part of the world. Guess nothing for the FJR but another bike that will likley sell low unit numbers. Seems to go that way.

Kind of reminds me of the not long ago Honda XR600 dirt bikes. New model, new year, same old bike... not even a color change. That lasted for like a decade. Then they went big, they changed the color. Eventually they caught up, albeit 6 years behind still, and got out a water cooled version, 50cc more, that weighd a ton and half.

So by 2020 we'll have the FeeJ 1400, in white, with cruise control (optional), and a Beemer rear end. :dribble:

VFR1200 and SprintGT both hit a different point in Sport-Touring tradeoff curve, somewhat closer to sport.

I happen to like that point, but many American ST riders want their bikes more like a full-on tourer.

BMW's K13GT is just way too much $$$. I'm sure it's a great bike and all, but why spend so much more money for essentially the same thing?

I think the king of the FJR's class, from a new technology vs price point standpoint has to be the Connie. Problem is, it is loaded with electronic crap that is going to cause reliability problems and the shop tards aren't going to fix easily.

Yes, the FJR is still competitive as is. With all the good new features they included in the Gen1 to Gen2 "upgrade" , I think the more they just leave it alone, and hopefully address the growing, known issues list, the better.

Could they give us some new paint colors for 2011?

I suppose. But what kind of a dork would upgrade their bike just to get a different color?

No suprise to me that Yamaha didn't come out with a new model. With all the layoffs in the industry, the large inventory they currently have, and the way the economy is looking...I can't say I blame them. I believe that suzuki is not changing a single thing on their bikes from FY10 to FY11.

I liked that they have the FZ8 available in the US, hopefully this trend continues and we get more of the cool bikes that Europe gets. In 2012 they are brining over a dual sport that looks nice as well.
