I have a soft side briefcase for work that I will be taking on board the FJR (whenever it shows). I'm certain it will not fit in the side cases but I am wondering if it will fit in the Yamaha rear case or if I will have to go with the Givi E52.

The dimensions of my briefcase are 17" wide, 14" high, and 10" deep (really it's 10"). Does any body know if it will fit in the Yamaha case as that is the one I'd like to go with as I kind of prefer the looks, only because it blends better with the rest of the bike in my opinion.

Thanks in advance!

I just ran out and measured the internal dimension across The Yamaha top case. Looks like your 17" wide briefcase (What do you do? auditor/lawyer or airline pilot? Sounds like a "chart bag" Big momma.) is about 1-2" too wide. The back (bottom) of the top case is over 17" wide, but the "hinge" for the restraining strap/limiting strap eats up some of the room. Also the case "tapers" in from back to front. (I'm designating the part closest to the rider as the "back", because I stood behind the MC to measure the top case while it is on the MC.) IMHO if your briefcase were 15-16" wide you might get it in there. :( The other dimensions, 14X10", would fit.

Good guesser- Airline Pilot, but I don't fly the line a whole lot anymore. Primarily, I instruct in our simulators and give check rides and rating rides to our other pilots.

Every now and then I'll go fly the line but we have had so much expansion I'm just real busy getting new pilots into the aircraft. Thank you very much for the response and for taking the time to measure.

Again my sincere thanks!

Looks like I'll go with the GIVi.

I have a soft Targus computer bag that I carry in the top case and it's 17" wide by 15" tall. It fits, along with the rainsuit and electric gloves when not using those, but only fits when diagonally upside down and backwards. I guess that means with the handle down and aft. Hope this helps.

Since it is "soft" you just might be able to "shoe horn" it in. However if the GiVi (sic) is wider, it sounds like the way to go. Good luck.

If you go with a Givi E52 you'll never look back.....
Sure he will...he'll just have to get the FZ1 mirrors to see around it :yahoo:

Seriously now...no, your case won't fit in the Yamaha topcase. My smaller case doesn't

My Dell case (17w x 14h x 6d) fits snugly. The tightest dimension is the 14" height, with the handle, it rubs the inside of the lid. I place it in with the handle facing forward. I couldn't close the lid with any other configuration.
