Wow pretty good program. I thought that they may require dealer maintenance, but on the website they indicate that you can do your own oil changes (using the approved products, of course).

I wonder what the extra cost of Yamalube oil will be during those 100k miles?
For me nothing. I buy it by the case because I am maintaining both mine and Dad's.

Any other oil I would put in my bike would actually cost more so the Yamalube is a bargain for me.

I wonder what they consider a "lubrication related failure." A gallon of Yamalube conventional oil is $23 at my dealer. Not a bad price. Semi-synthetic is a little more.

There won't be any lubrication based failures, so there will be no cost to Yamaha due to offering this program.

Yamalube is fine lubricant, and I use it myself.

But lubricant failures in the modern era are pretty much nonexistent.

If the engine fails due to a friction or wear issue, it is always because of loss of lubricant or loss of coolant, caused by failure of an oil pump or water pump, or by a catastrophic leak.

There are other lubricant companies that have offered similar "protection" to their customers, but really it's just a meaningless advertising gimmick. Of course they are vouching for the quality of their lubricant when they make this guarantee, so that's worth something. Like I said ... I use it myself.

^^^^^ what he said. As long as you keep oil in it, there will not be a failure. Marketing ploy.......

"as well as the specific Genuine Yamaha Oil Filter" also sells their filters. Keep you going back to the dealer. You just might find something else you want/need while getting your parts.

As long as you don't mess with it Don....

It's interesting that they have the same offer whether you use their Full Synthetic, All Purpose, or one of three other Yamalubes.

Like most warrantys it is written with enough exceptions that it could be gotten out of. Just about ever failure could be attributed to something else.

I've used Yamalube for decades. Sometimes I've exceeded the oil changes recommended by the owner's manual, but most of the time I change my oil at 3,000 miles. After 30 years of this strategy, the number of engine issues I've had (oil related or not) is zero.

Interesting way of offering a limited extended warranty. I say "snake oil". The added cost of buying Yamalube vs. a good brand of full synthetic motorcycle oil is not something I would fall for. I use full sun oil and change the oil and filter every 5K miles. The oil is not very dirty and none of my bikes have every used oil or had a lubrication issue. If you are inlined to ride in dusty or highly contaminated environs perhaps changing the oil every 3K miles is better. A lab engineer from Chevron Oil Co once told me oil does not wear out it get dirty or contaminated.

I use yamalube because it costs no more than any other oil I'd use. I used to buy quarts from the dealer, but they got so sketchy on other stuff that I just order by the gallon through Amazon prime.

More than a 'ploy', I believe it is marketing genius; low risk, good financial return. (after all Yamalube is good, very good; their risk of engine failure, even within their bounds of coverage is minimal)

Interesting gimmick. Per the moss ferguson act, it would be up to Yamaha to prove the failure was not lubrication based to get out of honoring the warranty. I would think that would be very easy to do with a high mileage bike.

In order to prove the engine failure is not lubrication related, it would require a tear down. The owner would be on the hook for that cost before the warranty could be validated. It would sure suck to spend a few hundered to a few thousand bucks, to have a mechanic tear down your old worn out engine only to find the issue wasn't lubrication based. Those fund could be better spent on a replacement engine or a new bike.

I say use whatever oil you like, ride more, worry less.

I use T6 personally.
