After months of reading postings I came up with the appropriate torx screwdriver and a bottle of loctite to check my latches. They were snuggish but not tight and no blu stuff so I redid them correctly with the blu stuff. It is worthwhile for everyone to check.

 
And after 4 years they got loose again, guess nothing last forever not even loctite.

I bought my bike a week or 2 ago. Finally went out to loctite these fasteners. The dealer apparently was aware of this issue, the nuts and screws had been replaced with rivets. No loctite needed.

My dealer was SUPPOSEDLY aware of this issue because he was the one that first told me about it. So I'm feeling all hunky dory warm and fuzzy, no need to check anything... but my bags are off the bike on a shelf about 3ft away, so I figured I might as well see where these screws are anyway. I'm curious.

One screw is so loose I can take it off without any tools. No sign whatsoever of Loctite anywhere. So much for the warm fuzzy feeling. :blink:

I finally loctite mine this evevning. After 5 years, 3 with me owning it, I did 'em.

One on each latch was loose when I went to unsrew it with the bit by hand. The little *** in the middle didn't help me none for grip. The screws were NOT backing out just sitting there looking pretty. The other one took some force to get off and put 'er back on with loctite.

One on the other side I could not even get loose, so I left it alone.

This is probably like those CCT threads where everyone goes mad and freaks out etc.... :D

Uhm... wrong place. There are no nuts involved, the screws go directly into the lock. Rivets wouldn't work.

My bags have lots of screws in them.
Are these the critical ones:

No. On the outside of the bag -> Lift the handle that allows the lid to open, and look at the underside. You'll see a latch that rotates as you turn the key. The screws in question are the ones that hold this latch to the lock.

Grip screws for a Beretta 92 FS fit perfectly in the bag locks, and they're a lot easier to deal with than the original screws. They are available from any on-line seller of grips for this firearm.

Same thing for me I checked mine and there was one of the screws on each side that were very loose. I loctited and was again happy for the valuable info. on this forum!

 
I put a little strip of duct tape over mine to keep them from backing out. Not had any problem since the tape.Jim
O.K. found them, ain't got a tool to fit the miseralbly shallow dimple, I'm liking the duct tape idea until I buy another 1 time use tool.

Hey thanks :rolleyes: , I just remembered, I've got a box of these little specialty bit stored with my electric drill, ......now where did I put it? :glare:

 
I bought a new to me 2004 FJR in 2008. Because of all the reports of bag drops and non-loctited screws publicized by this board, my buddy griff helped me check em. Sure enough, no loctite on the screws.

So CHECK YOUR SCREWS! :rolleyes:

 
The torx fastener with the *** in the middle is called a "safety torx" and you can get a set of screwdriver tips at your local auto parts store that fit deeply into the head. Careful with the locktite also since it will ruin ABS if you get it on it; as it makes it brittle over time and it will crack. Don't get me going over all of the stupid fasteners "they" come out with to thwart people from wrenching on thier own vehicles. :dwarf:
