After getting clipped on my VFR800 by a cager who decided to make a right turn from the center lane
weirdsmiley.gif
, I started my search for a replacement ride. Unfortunately, my search could not come up with a VFR800 to my liking, so I started expanding my search. Since most of my riding is a mix of daily commute and the occasional trip out to the hills, the S-T's appeared to be up my alley.

Sprint? - Reliability questions?

BMW K1200RT - Not my style, high cost

C14? - Stance is like a sumo wrestler, resale seems low

ST1300? - Love the smooth V4, but dated styling and weighs a ton

VFR1200 - Terrible milage and high price

So, I ended up shopping around for a new FJR. Funny how half of the dealers I contacted didn't even respond to my inquiries. A local dealer didn't even want to deal. When I told him I had a couple of offers for $14K(out the door), he stuck to his guns and stayed with his $16800. Too bad.

I struck a deal with Harding's Park Cycle in Canton, OH. Really nice folks. When I originally told them that I was thinking about flying out and riding it back, they kept me up to date with their weather and road conditions over the 2 weeks before I came to pick it up. Great communication.

In meantime, I've been trolling around trying to find as much information on the new bike as I could.

The day finally arrived to head out and pick up the bike and there was snow in the forecast. So no fly and ride for me. Oh well. I borrowed a friend's trailer and headed out a day early, figured I'd visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame while I was there.

8 hours through snow and salt, I arrived.

Got to see the Hall. Yes, I'm a longtime Pats fan.

Sat morning, I showed up at the dealer at opening time, finished the paperwork and strapped my new ride into the trailer.

350 miles of snow and salt later, we're home.

BTW, anyone notice that the FJR is starting to look more and more like a crazy Japanese cat?

Congrats on the new ride! Sorry riding it home didn't work out. What VIN # did you get?

I had the same non-response from two dealers when I bought and one who wouldn't give me a price over the phone. The economy must not be as bad as we think.

LOL nice comparison to the cat. Now we know where MamaYama recruits their bike designers.

I imagine Spring can't come soon enough for you. Enjoy your new ride oki, and hopefully you'll be a gazillion miles from the next brain dead cager who decides to make a quick exit from the wrong freaking lane.

Congrats. I only got 210 miles on mine before the state salt trucks turned my roads white. I need some serious rain to wash this crap away before I take Bernice III out again.

One dealer said they're only allocated two FJRs and wouldn't go near invoice. They believe they can sell them at full retail and I say more power to them.

Find a deal you can live with and move on!

Congrats!!! Have you been able to ride it at all since you got it home? I trailered mine form an out of town dealer a couple of days before xmas and the hardest part is storing it in the house without every riding it... c'mon spring!

Thanks all. It's #206.

Haven't been able to ride it except for the 12 ft from the back of the trailer to it's current resting spot.

Hopefully it'll rain and wash the salt off in the next couple of days so I can finally ride it some.

Congrats, oki - I got a '10 FJR two years back - love it. Went through the same list of competitors as you did (almost) and came up with the same conclusions.

Lucky You! I am not that patient, I would of had to go somewhere warm to ride her.
Best regards

Surly
Heh heh. Don't get me wrong, I was more than tempted to take the "southern" route home. Unfortunately, it's cold down there as well this week.

Congratulations. At least you can sit on it and program your info screens for entertainment until the roads and weather improve.
