It's shaping up to be a good size group. Please add me to the list Tyler.

Tyler, I don't know if it makes any difference, but my best friend Brent may join me on this trip. Brent and I met in the second grade, almost 69 years ago. He will riding his 2008 Concourse.

He lives in Boise so we will probably meet up in Carson City and then ride in together.

Is everyone heading into the park/valley, or is anyone interested in exploring the back-roads around there?
Both!

I am booked Fri and Sat, so I might head into the park on Friday. Will be leaving the Sacramento area early. Perhaps thirty after OM O'dark thirty early, so at first light. Maybe I will see some of you goobers in the park.

On Saturday, I have an all back-roads route planned. Some of which are goat-trails. I will be on the V-Strom, so anyone who wants to join may join.

Just one more way to help Redfish Pop feel right at home.

Well folks, I'm going to make an executive decision, without deference to the Chairman, the Board, Committee, or even a Quorum. I've had a couple shots of Kentucky Bourbon, and in my state of compromise, I get a bit presumptuous. You'll just have to bear with me.

(sigh)

As of today, I'm officially counting down in terms of WEEKS, not months.

(ahem!!)

8 weeks from tomorrow, I'll be heading West. It can't get here fast enough.

With Highway 120 probably still closed in June will we still be able to get into Yosemite and if so from what direction do we need to come? I know there are tons of roads in that area but will that also mean we may want to go up towards Tahoe a little more? Just not on Hwy 4 at night...been there done that and it was scary as hell!

If Hwy 120 (and also probably 108, or 4) are closed when you approach from the East, on a northerly route. Then Hwy 88 should be open and will spill you out on the Western side of the Sierras. If you are approaching from the southerly route, then go around the south of the Sierras, and make your way up. Perhaps visit Sequoia Nat'l park and Kings Canyon on your way up.

We will be coming from Sac, after visiting my dad, so we will be ok. However, I believe most will be coming from the east or south so your info will be useful! I am also curious about entering Yosemite to see Half Dome, Bridalveil Falls, El Cap, etc.?

All highways into the Yosemite valley will probably be open from the West.

The only difference it makes is that we will have one more kindred spirit to share the journey with! B)

Looking forward to seeing you there, my friend! B)

Allen, there are two or three good routes down from around here, all wide open. And since you enter Yosemite Valley from the west (only--its kind of a cul-de-sac), those good things you mentioned are about the first things you'll see. Bet you can't do it without stopping to take pictures. A lot.

Thanks Mike! I don't usually stop to take pics or smell the flowers but this ride will be for its scenic beauty for my girlfriend to enjoy!

Might be mentioned somewhere in these 26 pages of posts so far, but when you buy your park admission, it's good for a week. Chances are there'll be some in-and-out into the park going on, in addition to the fun roads outside it. So save the tag they'll give you. Unless you're lucky enough to be 62+. (Did I really say that?)

I've now got all of the State maps for this trip. Yeah that's right, Pants still uses the old fashioned, made from trees state highway maps. It's a great way to get a 30,000 foot view of the big picture.

I need to spread 'em out on the table and start thinking about route. I'm avoiding it because I don't want to do it. I'd rather just wing it day to day and blow with the wind. But I think is going to be a little bit different. I will need to tie myself down just a little more.

It sounds like in all likelihood, I will need to come into the park from the West. I'm fairly certain that I will be heading to YFO from Joshua Tree N/P. In that light, I may stop to see the Giant trees again in Sequoia before heading to YFO. For Pants, seeing these massive things once in a lifetime just doesn't sound like enough.
