Speaking of road conditions in California . . .
We've talked about the bridge that went out on 101 down by Big Sur, but up north on the other end of the road there were a couple big landslides a week or so back. Caltrans got it open after several days of round-the-clock work, and it was open for all of 27 hours before they got another surprise. This time they had some notice--loose rock coming down and such--so they'd closed the road again and Caltrans had crews on site. And at least one witness was filming when another hill slid down onto the road in the same place. Looks like 101 will be closed north of Leggett (about an hour south of Eureka) for at least a few more days. Hell of a year here in Cali.

Take a look. (Suggest you click the YouTube icon and watch full screen. And be patient for a minute or so.)
Mike, NOT 101, but CA 1 is what you are talking about here.......101 is fine all the way thru state.
Lots of traffic control locations (7 now) on 101 in northern California because of recurring landslides. Had to change our trip plans a few days ago as 101 was closed by a landslide. Many of the roads are in bad shape from poor maintenance and snow clearing operations. Pavement on Carson Spur on 88 is badly broken up. Very rough ride. Hornitos Road, near Mariposa, was a detour for big trucks while the bridge on 120 was closed so in places the road is one huge deep pothole from one side of the road to the other. One place we had to go onto the very narrow shoulder to get by!

My daughter lives up in Eureka--that's pretty close to the far north end of 101--and came down last weekend. Couldn't get through on 101 due to the slide in the link on post 569, had to come across 36. Fun on an FJR, not as much driving a car. But when she drove back on Monday, 101 was open all the way up already (with lane control and one-way traffic at the slide). Fast work, Caltrans.

But yeah, the bridge by Big Sur is definitely hwy 1, not 101. It's not quite ready to re-open yet.

I've got 17 days off to ride my motorcycle with my friends. I've already purchase 2 bottles of my favorite firewater. I'm planning to see the land that inspired John Muir to persuade others in the creation of the national park system.

I'm not too concerned about one broken bridge....

Uh oh, no one told the southerners that California does not allow liquor to be transport into their state?

They're from the south, it's probably in canning jars anyway. :)

If you're planning on hitting a few national parks on your journey, consider purchasing an annual pass now so you'll have it for entrance to those parks as well as Yosemite.

+1 on the Nat. Parks Pass. On this trip alone, I'll get my annual fee back and then some.
The USGS site takes Visa but not MC

? Never run into that before. Guess I'll have to ride over to Shitmire Ranger Office and see if they take cash.

As long as it meets emissions standards you're OK....

One of the best things about these events is the Camaraderie shared at the "Big Dinner" on Saturday Night!
https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/171750-yfo-saturday-evening-group-dinner/

I see a lot of folks coming to YFO that aren't signed up for dinner!

Get off of your Kollective Keesters and get signed up!
Thanks for the keester kick, John... just a reminder that I need to give the caterer a final headcount by May 19. If I don't have your payment by then (or at least promised), no soup for you! ;)
