I drove thru something similar in '90. Went from Oklahoma city to Shamrock,Tx in 16 hrs. It was insane, but I was driving from Chicago back to My Base in San Diego and was cutting it close on time. There were trucks facing everywhich way! I saw 2 cars that were driving like morons go off an overpass :dead: I ended up sleeping in the basement of a church as there was no vacancies anywhere. I pulled over due to a heavy fog setting in, and the carnage on the road was getting worse. Instead of a truck or car here and there I was seeing them on a regular interval, every 5-9 mins and figured it was only getting worse! It wasn't that bad though,I only saw 3 or so in of ice on the road, but it was still slick as cat **** on a linoleum floor1
I ended up taking a lovely detour by heading SW towards Roswell, never realizing where Whitesands was until I drove thru there at night. Talk about a confused kid  , it fells like 60's outside and all I see are what I think are snowdrifts! I had to pull over just see what the hell it was! Needless to say I was both relieved and amazed at the same time!
