Just ran across the pic I took when my 08 was delivered in February of 2008. Took one of the 2014 as well. Only two times I have ever took delivery of a vehicle with absolutely 0 miles!

Since they didn't do the required pre delivery test ride, makes me wonder what else they didn't do. The pre delivery check off form isn't just for fun. My 2013 is my 2nd also & I hope you like yours just as well. I'm not a doom day, type of guy, but a dealer takes a big risk, not going by the book. De

Been dealing with this family dealer for 30+ years, and trust their work completely. Received the setup check sheet for both the 08 and the 14 and the test ride box was not checked on either. Sooooo a bike received in February in Iowa did not have the test ride done. Damn! Shoulda took that sucka around the parking lot to sort out all the faults! Seriously, if the bike is uncrated and finish assembled by guys who have done this for years in the middle of winter, a modern motorcycle should be expected to be safe to operate without a test ride. Granted, if it was in a more friendly climate, a test ride would probably be in order. But given the climate and the nature of modern bikes, it shouldn't be an issue.

On another note, in 1974 I worked for a Suzuki "dealership" and assembled a few new crated bikes for them. At that time there was no checklist (that I knew of as a 20 year old). But I would take those 750GT Water Buffalo's out for a proper "test ride"! Makes me glad somebody didn't get a chance to beat the poor girl before me!

I remember "confronting" Dan at Sindt Motor Sales in Dubuque, IA about that in 08! He did end up filling it up later

Good people there!

My Dealer gave me the choice. He asked me if I wanted it delivered with zero miles and I told him I wasn't hung up on that. My only request is that whoever test rides it, actually test rides it and doesn't use it as an opportunity to yank wheelies to show off his girlfriend. He assured me that I didn't have to worry, that they follow a specific regiment. I was cool with that.

For what it is worth, if you are about to buy a new bike, tell the service mgr to have the bags off the bike prior to test riding. Also tell the dealer to not put the bike on the showroom floor. I have seen too many new bike with boot scuff on the bags. I would be very clear any scuff on the paint will be a big issue!! When taking the bike back for follow up service remove the bags as well.

A little "anal retentive" are we Art?

It's all good. I appreciate a scratch free new car experience as much as anybody, but relax a little. Fer Chrissakes, it's an FJR. Ain't like you're ever going to wash it after you buy it.

You're not,,,,, are you?

Went to the Chicago bike show in February, and you should have seen the condition of the bags, and even the back ends of the bikes on display there! Thought they would at least use even the cheap clear paint protection on vulnerable bits. Wonder what they ultimately do with these "display" bikes?

But yea, I would take the bags off if and when taking in for service too!

Yes, I am very anal about all my property. I have never let anyone wash my cars, put gas in them. I clean my bike after every ride. If on a road trip the bike is cleaned and covered all the while having a couple craft brewed IPS's or whatever non factory beer is available. Many comment both positively and otherwise about my habits. That's quite alright with me. No one has ever come up to my cars or bikes and said that looks like a piece of ****. Icing on the cake, I even polish the door hardware on my house!!

My new 2014A was uncrated, set-up and placed right next to the exit door at the showroom so I could pick it up the next morning. Fortunately, nobody sat on it or otherwise diddled with it before I took it home. Also, no service by any dealers, I do all my own work on all my motorcycles and have for the past 50+ years (except tire mounting/balancing).

Not necessary. My dealer will wash mine at the 100,000-mile service.
