My girlfriend, at 46, has never been shooting before she met me... never fired a handgun, never been to a shooting range. We can't have that, so... I am teaching her how to shoot.

On her second lesson, here is Paula laying down "Zombie Killing" head shots with the new Springfield Armory 1911-A1 .45 ACP Long Slide at 25 ft.... once you see the target after she runs in, you'll agree it's ill-advised don't mess with my female or she will leave you full of perforations and very dead. :)

I think I had better stay on the good side of this woman.....

Nice, you got her shooting! Work on her stance a little, lean in to control the recoil and she'll be shopping the gun shows with you!

I think you may need to up YOUR game. She may look for a better Zombie killing partner. You don't want to be the weak link you know.

Meah... I'm a pretty fair shot... hold an Expert Pistol medal from my Navy days, anyway. ;)

Here's the last 10 rounds of my Browning 9mm from that same shooting exercise... this is 75 feet from the target:

:)

Worse thing I ever did was teach my other half to load and shoot the shotgun. Now I toe the line. She's already rehearsed her testimonial. "Honestly officer, I thought he was out of town and I shot an intruder"

A redhead with a 45?

You sir, a feckin' NUTS.
Truth be told, the video lighting is offering a false hair color. While it looks red, her hair is actually a lighter brown.

Shyeah, teaching a *redhead* how to shoot a .45 ACP? I may be crazy, but not stupid.

I hate to criticize, but as we all prepare for the inevitable zombie apocalypse, keep in mind that only one of these shots (circled in yellow) would have been likely to put down one of these undead *******s. Headshots are where it's at.

I really should look for a zombie killing girlfriend - not sure if my wife would approve, however.

Yeah, perhaps using different nomenclature (one that excludes the word "girlfriend") is indicated when you go to explain this to the wife. ;)

I am working on her abilities, and I gotta say, for someone who hasn't fired any weapon before I started teaching her, she is doing pretty dag-gone well... thus far.

As expected, the 9mm is much easier for her then the .45 ACP Long Slide. In this following video, the scenario is: a Bad Guy is 50 yards away and is coming to get my girlfriend. Fortunately, Paula appears to be a Natural Born Killer using the Browning 9mm... will she kill the Bad Guy? Count the holes in him as the target is brought in... :)

My wife had never fired a gun before we met and she had no trouble with my Ruger Blackhawk .357 or the .44 special 3" barrel.

I never mentioned the word recoil to her. This was 35 years ago. She can now handle my Les Baer in .45 acp but keeps a

S&W model 19 next to her bed as the weapon of choice. Needless to say I don't try to sneak in late at night.

I've taught the basics to a few women friends over the years and found it much easier than teaching a guy.

It appears to be working for your GF but I really don't like the thumb placement on her weak hand.

Mine won't touch a weapon, so good on you!

Surprised to see that nobody's mentioned out that she's got enough hair for the both of you.

:p

Yep, I need to work on Paula's left hand placement, no doubt about it.... that's a problematic grip on the Browning 9mm, and she's only a little better with her grip on the .45ACP Long Slide.

And speaking of Long Slide... here is a final video clip just for mferriter.....

Dunno why I had the camera filming sideways until she emptied her magazine, but regardless, she started with a full 7-round magazine... and had SEVEN hits!!!

And 6 of those 7 hits.... Zombie head shots!!!!!!!!!

Nice - ready for the apocalypse now.

An epilog to this thread.....

I must give mega-props to HotRodZilla, who has been counseling me offline with regard to my grip technique on the Springfield Armory 1911-A1 .45ACP Long Slide.

Employing the HotRodZilla technique for the first time, below is the grouping I laid down at 100feet!!!

Paula19Mar12.jpg

Two magazine (14 rounds), and only one round fell outside the 4" green circle. Not too shabby for 100-feet distance...

All's I can say is... THANKS, HotRodZilla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is getting too easy for you WC it's time to backup to a 100 yards.

Now do it in 30 seconds. Those Zombies ain't gonna always walk that slow.

;) Nice shooting guy.

i had to go back and look. yep... that's gonna leave a mark. i used to do that after years of revolver shooting. on my first semi-auto (a little .380) i got bit by the slide and bled like a stuck pig. that was... carry the 2... more than 30 years ago and i still have the scar on the first knuckle of the off-hand thumb.

No kidding, those little .380's will point out any bad habits with your grip that you might get away with on a full size pistol or a revolver.

Funny you should mention revolver shooting. I noticed last time a fired a wheel gun at the range I had both thumbs pointed

down range. I know I had that thumb over habit at one time from shooting single-action revolvers. Reminds me it's been a long

time since I fired that old Blackhawk.
