If taking the long way does not interest everyone, you can still turn off on Old Highway 93 (193) towards Kingman about 4 miles before you reach I-40, then turn off on 259 (DW Ranch Rd), which will lead you to Hualapal (wall-a-pie) Mountain Rd 147. This will run straight into Business Loop 40 which is Historic Route 66 and take it through Oatman. Still make a stop at Mister D’s and still ride a nice part of Old 66 and the twisties. Total distance this way is about 178 miles from Wickenburg to Laughlin.

UR...You know that old hwy 93 is dirt right? And not just dirt but last time I was on it it was not really all there.

The Hwy in the pic is NOT dirt & hasn't been for at least 30 years . Where is old Hwy 93 in AZ ?

I grew up in Kingman and still have a house there. Old Hwy 93 cuts off about 4 miles from I40 and heads over to 259 and DW Ranch rd where the Loves truck stop is. That is dirt and has been for a very long time. 259 is sorta paved as long as it hasn't rained lately. Look at it on Google Maps and hit the satellite view. It is Brown Dirt.

FJRobert: What the hell? I would be up for trying it on the way back, we will be hungover and broke anyway; dirt is good!!!

Big-D: Would you have an opportunity to explore this further on a trip to visit your Flagstaff family sometime before 11/7?

I'm glad that Rob has bumped the thread, it is just 60 days away from now and only a few of you AZ FJR Forum Southwest have booked your rooms yet!

As FJRobert Always Says: You don't want to miss seeing what kind of CARS that the SO CAL FJR RIDERS GROUP will be DRIVING to Nevada this time!

If you need more info on this trip call or post Don Stanley: [email protected] 602-722-0427.

I just got off the phone with the Aquarius Casino and Resort. I'm booked for fri and sat. This will be my first trip with any forum people so this should be fun. I'm riding down from Prescott Valley to Wickenburg so if anyone is coming by way of 89 thru Prescott let me know and I will ride with you. LET THE FUN BEGIN:)

Fantastic news spudmanz, glad that you can make this ride with us! Great seminars planned for that weekend: I will be conducting an interesting Gambling Instructional. Fairlaner will present an intensive curriculum on Competitive Drinking.

As always, SkooterG will be showcasing his Groo inspired: "Safe Crashing Techniques for Dummies 101!" A crowd pleaser!!

Thanks Rob, I knew I was right about the map route marked 93 but now I know there is a dirt section as well. :) I should take reading classes as well . . . .

I am supposed to meet up with Dave (Orestes) in a little over a week from now. I will be glad to check out that little stretch of road. With all of the times I’ve been up to the Hualapai mountain area, I never really paid much attention to the road names, so I can’t say whether that part is dirt or paved. But I will check it out next week and let you know. There may be alternate routes that are more interesting than riding the interstate.

Just didn't want you to get 20 miles in and run out of road. Also I just got a promo from the Aquarius for 2 free nights for a friend who doesn't have a players card. It expires sometime in Nov I will take another look to see if your dates are included.

https://www.visitlaughlin.com/ltourism/about/weather.jsp Big-D and Rob: I'd like to ask a favor of you two, since you are our members of FJR Forum living closest to Laughlin. I would like to hear your suggestions for a 100-150 mile lunch ride for Saturday. Oatman perhaps? Katherine perhaps? AZ Highways map shows an "Historic Goldroad" over the Sacramento Mountains to McConnico? Just a route for us to get our "knees in the breeze" and have a group noontime dinner together.

Big Dan - The Man: There is a couple from Yuma, Gordie and Marcia Thomas, that would like to meet up with you in Lake Havasu City and ride up to Kingman to meet up with the Phoenix Crew. As this gets closer, I will PM you both contact info.

Not 100%, but enough where I booked 3nights (thur, fri, sat). At this point my plan is to make a mini-vacation and explore some good riding down there ...some pockets of AZ that are on my list to hit.

For me, not at the Auqarius, but rather Harrah's -yes, because of the 'adult' pool. Ya, I like to go topless. (actually 'cause I get a killer rate there).

Look forward to bumming smokes off of Richard, getting stupid Nevada style and exploring some old and new roads.

Here is my preferred road into Oatman

....yes the dirt way ...but most of it easy ..just a few little surprises. Not sure if this is the road you guyz are talking about ..I've got waypoints and such I can give for anyone that wants them.

I'll be glad to supervise Nevada Style fun ....but in return I'll need some AZ supervision -as my last time in Oatman I knocked over another guys bike while backing into my spot (trip here clicky).

RenoJohn: That's fantastic news that you're going to make the trip! I absolutely love your ride reports, outstanding articles!

If I was to loan my Kawi KLR 650 to SkooterG, how thoroughly lost do you think you can get him in the Mt. Nutt Wilderness?

Rather than spend so much boring time riding I-40, a nicer ride to take would be take sr89 out of Wickenburg to Ashfork and then pick up Historic Route 66. You can Route 66 from Ashfork, all the way to Oatman and then cut down through Bullhead City on 155. It will be a little further, but it's a great ride. And November will be perfect. Once you leave Kingman staying on 66, you'll go down some road where you can crank open the throttle if desired and then the last 22 miles before Oatman will be really tight twisties. Although the road is narrow and mistakes can be costly. Just before leaving Kingman on 66 you'll pass by Mister-D's café that has great food (and sundaes & banana-splits). For those that have not ridden this part of Old Route 66, it's a lot of fun and good nostalgic history.

This would be very nice indeed. I have been wanting to take the road from Ash Springs down into the canyon --Hualapai indian reservation. Last time, (this trip(clicky) I was turned away after a bit of the dirt road. Nice lady and all, but I could not persuade her to bend the rules and let me go. I'd very much like to do this this -perhaps with the zonies' mojo in the mix it can happen this time.
I'll have to dig up old track-logs ...but somewhere south of the twisties beneath Prescott you can take some good roads over to Bagdad and then over to Oatman.

The though of going back down to this special area of planet earth is really bringing back some great memories.

That answer entirely depends on how many peyote plants we stumble across while out chasing windmills. The desert can make man void of time, and vice versa ....so really, no telling. Just one of those things that you have to do to find out.

I know a lot of time to fine-tune things but me thinking my 'day ride' friday might look like this and perhaps we can attempt to coordinate at #10 ...this is aprox 45miles north of Wickenburg ....I'll be coming from Bagdad. Maybe 3:45ish?? ...and we can leave messages around 2:00 or so ....and if I'm not there waiting, keep going.

I'll attempt to get into the canyon (#5) then head down through Prescott, then those fun roads zig-zagging over to Bagdad.

Certainly open for suggestions, especially getting from Seligman to Prescott. that section of 89 ain't that fun and I recall the last times getting caught in miles of suburbia traffic north of Prescott.

Looks like I may be coming through your crib. --->If you're going to start riding with forum folks, might as well start with me -and work your way up from there.
