Have the Zumo 550 with the Autocom hookup in the helmet only. When I use the blue tooth phone feature for calls, the reception is good but my transmit sounds bad to the person on the phone end. I have verified that my phone is working normal already too.

How has your transmit been when talking to Home, from the helmet? Wondering if this is a common problem or if my Zumo, in particular, is having a problem.

IIRC running thru the Autocomm will lower your mic 50%. You can have the Autocomm reworked to eliminate all muting(crappy fix). I bought the BT adaptor (part # 1273) for the Autocomm to pair the phone/Zumo but still have the bike in the shop for middle gear replacement.....Haven't added it yet . . .

Try a careful cleaning of your connectors on the bottom of the zumo and the cradle.

Has it always been like that, or is it new?

I have my Zumo going through the StarCom. For a while, I had serious mic quality degradation for a short time. I determined it was due to the mic getting wet (don't ask, you DON'T want to know).

While I don't think it is really the Zumo that is really having an issue but more the microphone and more over it's the environment. More than anything it's the surrounding noise level, if that can be toned down (attenuated) the mic will work better.

My BT has worked like crap with every mic setup I've used. Even tried the special Garmin mic with it placed inside the helmet, no better.

Motorola-Q phone

Is the problem crappy sound or 50% sound ? Plenty of info available about 1/2 muting when using phone with Autocomm/Zumo.

Here is a reply from a Garmin Tech about connecting my bluetooth phone to the Zumo through my Autocom.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International!

I am happy to help you with this. What you have already done is about the

units

Problem:

How do you suggest that I connect the Zumo microphone jack to my Autocom AVi

system on my 2006 Gold Wing. I have the Zumo installed and the audio out is

connected to the Autocom, it works perfectly for everything but the

bluetooth phone audio in. The party that calls me or that I call can not

hear me but I can hear them clearly. I tried one of your mics but the

results were not good on the bike, works OK in the car.

Autocom suggested a cable from the Zumo mic jack to the Autocom, this works

but the sound quality is poor for the person receiving the call, I can hear

them clearly. Do you have a solution. What was your plan when you developed

the unit?

Thanks in advance,

Wayne
From what I have taken from the site if you pair the phone to the Autocomm BT adaptor & then pair the Zumo the Autocomm BT adaptor the volume will not be decreased since you have it on plug 1 which does not mute when used . . . .

OK, but if nobody asks we're gonna continue envisioning you slobbering all over your mic :dribble:

....or wearing it in the pool :Snorkle:

I don't have the autocom or starcom set up, just a Scala Rider Teamset. Phone calls sound fine and I am told most folks on the other end don't believe I am on my bike going 80mph...

So, it's your mic , not the Zumo I'd wager....

I have the same problem. Haven't figured it out yet.

At slow speeds its not too bad but on the highway there is too much wind noise for them to hear me.

Not sure how you are configured but mine works well. My Zumo 550 is connected to an Autocom Super Pro AVi via an Autocom Zumo adapter 1299. Autocom configured my AUX2 input for it and the AUX1 is setup for my radar detector. It works well. Most people don't realize I am on the bike unless I tell them.

Edit: I do remember having some issues with Bluetooth when I first received my Zumo. I had my phone flashed with a firmware upgrade and it fixed the problem. It was very odd considering I didn't have any issues using my stereo bluetooth headset with my phone.

That's the key, Has to be redone at Autocomm . . . .or there's a BT adaptor($$) that uses plug 1, which will automute music but not phone calls. :good:

If you call Autocomm they will tell you to send it in(abt $15).

Go to the Zumo forum and search under "Autocom connection". There is a wealth of knowledge there. Also, make sure that the volume on the Zumo is all the way up to help with the transmission from your end.

This is interesting. I'm using a previous (pre '06) generation Autocom. Sound quality to the person on the other end has always been poor. Same situation when I'm BT-ing using the automotive mount in the car. I've always attributed it to the BT function, not the mic. Anyone else using a Scala with similiar results to KM?

Maybe this would be an easier setup for everyone. I researched this topic for several months and came up with this setup. Really easy. NO autocom. Sorry to all of you that love them, just too expensive. I have the Garmin Zumo and the Blueant Interphone, wife has a Blueant also. These can be had for around a hundred bucks if you search. I use a wired set of earphones for now hooked to the Zumo but I may try stereo bluetooth headset in the future. Works like a charm. I have made and received calls and no one on the other end even knows that I am on a bike!. Can hear everything although I have to adjust the volume on my phone before I get on the bike. Hope this helps someone.

I have the Zumo 550, Nolan N42 Helmet with N com bluetooth integrated and a Sprint, LG Fusic phone and everything works flawlessly together. It surprizes me that I'm constantly told that its hard to believe that I'm talking to people from my bike. I've had conversations at 75mph that friends have told me sound better then when I'm standing still with the phone in my hand. On my end things sound good as well. The bluetooth music sounds really crappy but its not the reception its just the quality of the speakers and lack of stereo bluetooth profile.

Yes, I have the same setup as Knifemaker- Zumo and Scala Rider Teamset. I also enjoy the same excellent quality. People cannot believe that I'm on the bike. The RAZR phone audio is so good its even better that the music playing from the Zumo. Everything is Bluetoothed.

Still working on this problem. I really appreciate all of the input so far, Thanks.

I should clarify though. I only have the Zumo 550 and the headset only from the autocom. I'm not using the autocom unit. My goal is to be able to hear the XM radio in stereo and have good phone transmission and reception. I curently have good XM reception, as well as phone reception, but could improve with earbud style speakers. Some of the other bluetooth options, apparently, disable the stereo feature of the helmet speakers.

I have cleaned the contact points on the Zumo cradle without improvement results.

My LG phone dosnt let me turn down the my microphone in order to decrease the helmet / turbulance / muffeled noise. Anyone have a similar setup and know of a better phone to do this on? I'm thinking of changing the phone to the Verizon GZ-one.

Thanks for all the input so far. Dan
