Motorcycles are not inherently dangerous, but they are extremely unforgiving.

I sign in to report the addition of myself to the crash club, only to read JB's excellent and astute observation of our passion. I was going to go with something more like "stupid hurts (and it ain't all that cheap either)

So here goes my tale of woe!

Beautiful day here in NorCal, so naturally, I must go for a ride. All is going well and I take a little side road out of Shingletown that after a few miles turns in a kind of wide, single lane. Plenty of 10 Mph hairpins, blind corners and the like. Having never been down this road, I am following the speed limit and kind of checking out the valley below that is opening up before me (beautiful) when I come out of a medium uphill right hander into a left to right that is downhill. I could not have been going more then 25-30 TOPS! Well, I didn't line up the turn before I glanced up to see the valley that just opened up at the crest of the hill and when I refocused on the road I was already in trouble. I went off the shoulder into the rocks and was trying not to jam the brakes too hard and low side her. I think that I gave just a bit to much lean and put the rear wheel into a slid and out and into "the rock" marked as such in the photo. I am pretty sure that is what then launched my very short career as "high sided AGATT solo act". Naturally, there was a 10 foot or so embankment that was on that side of the road, and we both went down it. Badcat Burk had just recently filled my Karma mug and I do believe that I used every drop up. Helmet shows that I pretty much missed putting my head through a tree/rock or other unforgiving item. Missed all the rocks and stickes ect at the bottom of the hill by sheer luck/devine intervention. Pretty much just banged up my right shoulder/right ribs. New supervisor (just moved to the area and ONLY local phone # in the cell) came with her husband and fetched me (30 miles or so out of the way)and took me to the hospital. Got my first ever CT scan (that's what I do for a living) which showed no broken bones, organs ect. Then they brought me home (in pouring rain and got me some food to eat as well!) Stacy ROCKS! One of the other ladies that works where I now do, she and her husband are graciously storing my bike for now as it happened about 10 minutes from where they live. So, it's a Sunday of Vicoden and Olympics for me!

Remember kiddies, shiny side up!

Road and said rock

Where we ended up, bike: 3rd tree from the left, me: 7th tree from the left.

Do you think that this will buff out?

This is what makes me think I slid the *** end into the rock. There is a definate absense of "dent" in the front rim.

For some strange reason, the neutral light will not go out! Go figure............

YUP!

Kinda like AGATT, there is just no other way to ride.

Sorry, man!

Wow, having BTDT, I understand.

You KNOW you'll be sore tomorrow and likely still angry with yourself. This is a hard lesson...extremely hard, one assumes you took notes. Next time: Look through the corner!

The damage will buff out, as soon as you replace all of the parts. There doesn't look to be much worth saving on this one, so you'll want to consider "replacement therapy". I suspect your insurance company is going to agree.

You are safe, and that's the most important chapter in the novel. No broken bones and nor internal injuries are good things to hear from the medical professionals. Heal your body and let our mind heal, then get back on a bike.

Glad to hear you are ok, Gregory! Bummer about the bike, especially since you were just getting to explore your new surroundings, but there'll be other bikes and all those roads will still be there. I hope you're not too sore tomorrow.

Dave

Get well soon! Bikes are fixable and replace-able, so don't dwell too much on the damage, just lessons learnt and focus on healing yourself and hope to see you back on a bike soon!

Wow Greg hope you like silver......

Do you know what the name of the road is?

Damn Greg!! I don't think any of that is gonna "buff" out..

Good to see you're ok so to speak. I bet you're starting to feel it now though.

:jester:

Greg, I don't know what to say. If you didn't want to ride with me in April you coulda just said so.

I'm glad you are basically OK. I've been in the old MRI for similar reasons so I can't point fingers. Just try to learn lessons and gain your confidence back. Your boss sounds wonderful. Take the meds and relax.

Look on the bright side, it gives you more time to search for intermet ****. :p

That's a good hit.

Seriously good to read you are OK. Damn, folks have died for less than that, you are one lucky SOB.

Ok, lucky and prepared, that's why ATGATT, right?

One never knows when...

Remember..

Vodka-Din..

Holy CRAP that's a lot of damage for the speed. Are you sure somebody didn't come along and hit it again after the crash? Good on ya about all the gear, good about the injuries, good about he boss, the insurance, and the luck. And better luck with your replacement feejer.

Bet ya didn't know I'm right handed (the injured side), so lessin Bust is gonna give me a loaner sheep  , my *** life is over for a few weeks! :banned:

Lesson is learned (always did seem to learn em the hard way) and I am more dissapointed in myself then pissed at myself for doing such a stupid thing.

Nope, just me and the road mixing it up. I think that when I hit the rock the bike highsided and hit the road and I was thrown clear. I never really slowed down because I didn't want to wash out in a low side.

Thanks for the well wishes everybody.

Greg

I'm glad you are OK. It could have been a lot worse. :vava: Looks like your co-pilot was with you, keeping you from much greater harm. It's always good to walk away from something like this.

The bike is just a bike - not a family member, you'll get another one.

Though it's still painful to look at the pictures.

Get healed up soon!

Brodie

Damn man.

I think your bike is totalled.

Sure glad that you weren't!

Sounds like your supervisor friend is a pretty good one (friend).

The karma thing goes round and round...
