Skyway Fuel Cell Info
Finally, here are the details for the fuel Cell. First, I have to make some disclosures to everyone, so please read carefully and make sure you fully understand exactly what I've written below. If you don't understand, and need it explained, then don't proceed.
If you suffer with a constant overwhelming desire to begin whining at any given moment and have no idea when to shut the hole underneath your nose, then step away from this thread right now, cause this gig won't by flying this way. Any hint of this and you will vanish from being a part of this GB, no exceptions, you have been fore warned.
The photos shown do not represent the final product and go against my better judgment for unveiling something new. But if I don't get going with this right away, then riding season will be upon me in no time and the window of opportunity will be lost for all. I have no intention of manufacturing my own fuel cell on site, never have, and never will. I don't have the time or necessary precision tig welding skills to make the tanks to the highest quality possible and maintain a cost effective product. However, this setup will be custom fit to your bike without any compromise of fit and finish.
I will not be supplying the fuel cell or the bulkhead fitting that will be required for fuel supply to the front of the bike. This transaction will be between you and the manufacturers/suppliers of the product. This also means that I take no responsibility for any part of this system that you may/may not dork up during installation or usage. This fuel cell is a prototype only, which I do not recommend for use on a motorcycle. Basically, you're on your own for the install, cause I don't want the liability. Adding a fuel cell to your bike is serious business, but when done correctly, is relatively safe and an invaluable tool to have in your arsenal when heading out on the highway.

So here's what I've come up with. The tank you see in the photo is being produced by Tourtank. Tourtank has shipped in the region of 5 thousand of these fuel cells worldwide without issue, so I'm not about to go and re-invent the wheel.

The auxiliary fuel cell shown has a capacity of approximately 4.2 gallons, and once added to the mounting system that I've designed, will be within all the current guidelines set forth by the IBA. It is designed to work with the stock front FJR seat and will fit all model year FJR's. It's a gravity feed system and I've run numerous tanks through my bike with no issues. It completely drains in less than 30 minutes when full, from the time the valve is opened.
Fuel cell features include:
Fuel Cell cover
Available Fuel Cell cover options. The area relating to the front of the fuel cell (behind the riders back)
· Removable rider's backrest.
· Various size storage pockets that can be custom sewn for riders different needs. (More info to follow)
· Pocket with small access hole to allow power for cell phone charger etc
· Pocket colors can be sewn to match your already existing "Skyway Hydration System"
Pricing - I'm above my target price of $500 by $50 when it's all said and done, I just can't do it for any less folks.
Fuel Cell from Tourtank- I have pre-negotiated a price for the tank to be manufactured as described above. The prices include shipping and discounts are based on qty sold. If there is enough intrest, I will give you the order code required and you can order away directly with Tourtank. The pricing is not marked up at all, this is the best I could do. If you compare the pricing from their website www.tourtank.com you will notice that the prices are very reasonable with the options I have added.

- Allows the use of both the popular factory Yamaha and aftermarket Givi top boxes, without any modifications to your bike. Prevents you from having to rethink how to have the continued convenience of quick access, dry, secure storage. The design also allows for the lid of both top boxes to be opened completely without any interference with the fuel cell.
- The fuel cell IMO is mounted in the prefered position above the passenger seat.
- Slim profile does not impede the use of the handle and locking mechanism of both side bags.
- Capacity of the fuel cell is approximately 4.2 gallons
- Fuel Cell does not have a vented gas cap, so there should be no issue of fuel entering the rear passenger area of your bike. A vent hose will be provided in the event of fuel expansion etc to safely drain from the rear of the bike. (an optional puke tank to collect such fuel is available)
- Fuel cell does have a grounding lug.
- Fuel cell does have 2 welded anti-slosh baffles inside.
- Fuel cell has an offset gas cap, to allow maximum filling while on the side stand
- Fuel cell is all aluminum construction with some of the best tig welding I've ever seen. (I'm guessing a machine did it cause it's perfect everywhere)
- All fuel cell and fuel connection fitting threads are all NPT. No oddball size threads in the entire system, allows for easy roadside maintenance if needed while being a long way from home.
- 6061 ground billet aluminum with stainless steel fasteners.
- No drilling or modifications required to the sub frame of your bike.
- All parts are CNC machined for a perfect fit.
- Convenient left side throw handle, so your throttle hand never needs to leave the handlebar.
- Securely bolted with stainless steel hardware to the rear sub frame of the bike. This mounting system is so over engineered, I'm confident that I could safely lift the back wheel off the ground with it.
- Mounting system shown conforms to the area of the rear passenger seat so that there are no visible gaps once installed.
- Custom machined mounting system for sanitary manual ball valve mounting.
- Apart from the 1 clip required to hold the vent tube in place and the manual throw ball valve, there will be no visible hoses or hose clamps once installed. This is a very clean setup, which is illustrated in the attached jpeg file.
- The mount shown is for the FJR model year 03-05, and you can expect as clean a setup for the 06-07 FJR.
- Marine grade quick disconnect fittings for fast, easy removal of the fuel cell.
- Marine grade fuel filter will also be supplied.
Fuel Cell cover
- The photo shown is a prototype, and does not reflect the finished product, though it is very close. The vent hose will eventually be fed through the cover and not on the outside as shown in the photos.
- Reflectors sewn on all sides for increased visibility during night riding.
- 1000 denier cordura material throughout and is fully foam backed and lined.
- Cover securely straps to the fuel cell.
- Rear storage pocket has enough space to carry letter size documentation. Perfect for maps and any rally documentation.
- Top storage pocket for easy access for Maglite flash light. (Not shown, but will be there)
- Top fastened bungee style material for securing irregular shaped objects. Also doubles up as a great place to store gloves etc when stopping for fuel.
- 2 end storage pockets shown for additional carrying capacity.
- 2 hidden end pockets that contain heavy duty mesh bags for those times when you want to have a secure spot for drying any items while on the move. Such items may include a pair of gloves that got wet during a rain shower, or maybe your on a long trip and wash your own laundry in your room, but it is still wet upon departure. The 2 mesh pockets allow you to conveniently dry any such items while on the move and not have to pack wet clothing next to your dry, clean stuff.
- The 2 mesh pockets conveniently tuck away when not in use and are completely hidden from view. See photo's
- Lower front storage pocket contains a fully waterproof hi-viz color rain cover with rear facing reflector for increased visibility in poor conditions (prototype is shown, but will be finished for production) that completely shrouds the fuel cell and more importantly seals the gap between the riders seat and fuel cell mounting system. This is designed to aid in keeping rear passenger seat items below the cell dry during rain.
- IMPORTANT: All of the above mentioned storage features are securely connected, but can be easily removed when necessary, to ensure that items do not get accidentally left behind at a gas station or are seen blowing away in your rear view mirror, or worse, you realize 150 miles away your stuff was sitting beside the bike back at the last place you stopped.
- Fuel cell cover also conforms around the gas filler neck of the tank.
