    K1600GT Ride Report

I consider this a very fair comparison as a "defector" here. Can I just clear up one thing though that's bandied around a lot; the weight? Seriously... the wet weight difference between the two bikes is 80lbs. Seriously. If you weigh 250lbs (and I can guarantee quite a few FJR riders I...

    Migrating to BMW ...?

I should also say (and this deserves a new post in my opinion) that dealer network was also a factor. Seriously, I don't know how many here are familiar with St. Louis but the nearest Yamaha dealer I would even let look at my bike is in Collinsville. Donelson... well, let's just say I've had...

    Migrating to BMW ...?

I do definitely agree that in theory the K16 should be cheaper... but you're really not comparing apples to apples here. Similarly equipped, a K1600GT base is $20,900. That is a bike with the same equipment as the FJR plus a few other niceties. Comparing it to the fully loaded GT is not really...

    Migrating to BMW ...?

Does if you ask nicely and the bird lands, Hoo would give a fork? Sorry to bring this thread back to life but I wanted to post since I don't get on here much. I went from an FJR to a K1600GT about a month ago and felt I could actually give some useful feedback rather than a rant. First, to...

    FJR v C14

To add my 2c; I came from a C14 ABS by way of a BMW R1150GS. My opinion is probably not even worth the 2c because I didn't ride them back to back. However, I'm young enough my memory is still pretty good. I seem to still remember my girlfriend's birthday most years... ;) Anyway, the ergos of...

    FJR / BMW Indecision

Funnily enough, I purchased my FJR from the local BMW dealer... mostly because I traded my R1150GS for my FJR and they are ALWAYS buying those things because they sell dead easily. Anyway, my final decision came down to a new K1300GT and the used FJR. I sat on both and decided on the FJR. My...

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

Replying to myself again... as promised I have a photo of myself taken this weekend astride my new ride. This is the only one that really came out good, unfortunately. I cropped a version of it and made it my avatar. Here's to many more miles on this wonderful machine :) BTW, about ten...

    Seat - leather vs vinyl

+1. I've had leather seats on my last couple of bikes and wouldn't have it any other way. Vinyl is good too, and as you say it's cheap... but leather requires only a smidgen more care and attention than vinyl and I think wears a lot better. Vinyl will tend to look just fine right up to the day...

Why is the FJr being left out of tests?

I would tend to agree. I've owned a few bikes but I really feel that the FJR is better put together than any of them so far. Even the direct competitor the Concours 14 had some cheap feeling stuff to it, which I acknowledge has been improved since the 2008 I had... but still. When you pay 15...

    Average age of FJR owners

Since I'm an FJR owner now (about a week) I can post. I am 38 and have ridden bikes on and off for 14 years, but consistently for the last 6. Had a Ninja 250, Honda Nighthawk 750, Kawasaki Concours 14 ABS, BMW R1150GS and now the FJR. Also ridden a rented Honda Deauville (NT650) for two weeks...

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

Just to reply to myself (and if I don't stop that, will I go blind?) in case anyone else hits the same concerns about the suspension that I did (too hard); When dialing in your perfect suspension settings, start with first checking your tire pressure. After a couple of days of fiddling and...

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

Thank you! LOL... did you see me go past, or just thinking I must have? About five minutes later I was just getting off 170 at St. Charles Rock Road and the heavens opened. By the time I got into Gateway's car park I was getting pinged with hail. I had to laugh; seems every time I go out these...

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

Thank you! Yeah, the Throttlemeister is an awesome piece of kit. I like the idea of cruise control, but a throttle lock is more than enough for me on those long riding days. Got very accustomed to that on my GS and am making use of mine already on the FJR during my commute. As for the "bit of...

    So long!```

 All that scraping! Well, +1 to the Goldwing; the only bike that doesn't need a sidestand when you park it. :P

Useful opinions wanted on purchase decision

Useful opinions? Well, here's mine given that I've only had an FJR for four days, of which I've only actually ridden it for three. I had a 2008 Connie ABS that I purchased new before the BMW R1150GS that I traded for my FJR. I put about 14K miles on that puppy before I traded it. So let me give...

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

LOL... thanks for the reminder. I'll do that after I've written this little missive... and yes I'm really happy with my purchase. Doesn't hurt that I got it for a great price (in my opinion) Yes, that's a Throttlemeister. Very handy; I got really spoiled on having a throttle lock on my GS :)...

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

OK... more photos coming... but here's a couple of low-res ones courtesy of Gateway BMW from their online ad. Figured I'd save them for posterity :)

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

My perspective from the riders seat is pretty damned good. The cluster is well laid out and wide. The fender itself looks wide at the top, but from my perspective at least the bike in general seems narrower than my old Connie. The gauges also seem to sit a lot lower in my view than they did on...

There's a little bit of hooligan in this bike...

OK, so I did it. :yahoo: After my previous thread I figured I'd start a new one. And though I think nothing I'm going to say in this thread is going to be exactly news to anyone here, I figured for those who are thinking of buying an FJR this thread may be helpful to them. If you didn't...
