Loose lock on the saddle bags

I've seen a neat little set of Torx security bits at Autozone.

    Best Towing Service?

that's one of the things that attracted me to KOA. Their website says... Remember that their coverage is for all vehicles, not just RVs. Well most people consider motorcycles as recreational vehicles anyway.

    Best Towing Service?

when I did some comparison shopping last year, I settled on KOA's RoadHelp plan (actually a rebadged Allstate Motor Club plan). It cost on the high end of the spectrum ($80 year), but it seemed to have the richest benefit and the least restrictions. AMA Motow is not bad if you're already an...

    Riding the BlueRidgePkwy

I've been on the BRP end to end roundtrip each year for the last 6 years or so. I just about always skip Skyline Drive. The 35mph limit on Skyline is just a bit much. Also on my southbound trip I often start in the Front Royal area which means getting on Skyline at about 7:00 when the forest...

Want to buy ~ Exhaust Headers (not the cans though)

Anyone have any headers collecting dust? How about you guys that put on Muzzy or Holeshot systems?

    Grand Canyon

+1. There's a bunch of US Forest Service dirt roads that lead off the main road just south of Tusayan. They told me I could go down any one of them and camp anywhere as long as it was more than 1/4 mile in. There's also an offical campground just south of Tusayan that costs $10 or so.

    Changing Tires with Centerstand

Here's a pic of my bike in a dealership parking lot. I removed the rim myself to keep the costs down. What I do is ...... loosen all the bolts I need to put the bike on the centerstand so that the tail is close to an imovable object (parking block, fence, sewer grate, automobile rim...

Stranded with a bent rim during X-Country trip

Well, I'd paid for a Saturday delivery FedEx for a new rim, but Yamaha gave me an incorrect tracking number and FedEx chose to not notice the Saturday Delivery notation on the airbill. So on the Saturday, no box was to be found and I had no way of tracking it. This let me to believe that it...

Stranded with a bent rim during X-Country trip

New Bearings and seals are coming in the same box with the rim (hopefully). I'll have a local shop press them.

Stranded with a bent rim during X-Country trip

car + trailer would be great, but I recall that it's near impossible to find a place that will rent you anything with a trailer hitch installed (other than the larger sized trucks).

    parts interchangability with other models

You may have seen my posts about being stranded with a bent rim. Does anyone know whether there are any parts that are common to other models? Naturally I'm specifically interested in a front rim. Are the ABS & non-ABS rims interchangeable (I have ABS)? It looks like the non-ABS has a...

Stranded with a bent rim during X-Country trip

Does anyone know of a rim from another bike that might crossover to the FJR? Are the non-ABS rims OK to use, provided I tie the ABS sensor out of harm's way?

Stranded with a bent rim during X-Country trip

UPDATE... and not a good one at that. Gary emailed me tracking numbers early this morning. So I go to the Fedex office when they open and there's no box to be found. The tracking number is also not yet logged. Gary's home sick, but someone else at University talked to him and they researched...

Stranded with a bent rim during X-Country trip

As of right now, Mr. Gary McCoy @ University Motors went to bat for me in a big way and is having a rim shipped to me. If all goes to plan, I'll pick it up tomorrow, take it to a shop for tire and bearing install, and get the heck out of here.

    Yamaha top box

To me the Yammy case means big on the outside, small on the inside. The double wall construction and 4 point latching is just lame. I don't care much for the color matching either, but I do like the single key aspect.

Stranded with a bent rim during X-Country trip

I picked up my '05 in California this week, and I'm heading home to New York in a very meandering fashion. Trouble is I hit a honkin' big rock and dinged my front rim pretty good. I can't ride it the way it is, but Im having trouble finding a replacement that can get here in less than a week...

Farkle fever requires longer battery bolts

When you eventually find slightly longer bolts to accomodate all the ring terminals you're piling up on there, throw the old bolts in your toolkit in case you ever find yourself removing accessories & wiring. As was mentioned, you could end up with a bolt that is too long to tighten w/o...

    Bungie Buddies on the FJR

Thanks Trinibob. Any signs of water intrusion from this? Man, that's gotta hurt to pick up the drill to the case!
