FJR North of Louisville on I65

Ran into a fellow FRJ rider on 65 with a flat just north of the River. Stopped to give assistance but he had help on the way. Looks like the Louisville gang has a new member from South Carolina. Forget his Member name but I am sure he will see this. We all need to get together some evening for...

    GEN I paranoia???

What would be the cost of preventive ticker maintenance? If there is such a thing. Then factor in the additional cost of a GEN2, flight, shipping import duty etc. Then you can make the decision based on something tangible like a dollar amount. You like the specific bike that is in your garage...

    Say No to YES

I switched to Progressive and rather than buy new shoes or a tricked out name tag, I bought YES. I also bought an extended warranty on my digital camera which my wife dropped at Kings Island and got a new one. I also purchased one for my Rebel XT as these are relatively cheap compared to the...

    Highway Confidence

Be sure to add one of those nice aftermarket horns, because they will never hear the stock one.

The Dragon ,The Snake and New Roadsmart tires

I have also added the Roadsmart tires to my FJR and have about 1000 miles on them. I have noticed that running 38/42 in them that I tend to track the imperfections in the road more than I did with the stock tires. I thought (it was my impression) that this was worse when I ran them about 4 psi...

Fuel Gauge / Mileage on Reserve

I just gassed up yesterday. I had 150 miles on the clock and took 3.8 gals. That works out to 39 mpg which was very close to what the digital readout said I was doing. At this point the gas gauge was reading 2 bars and not on reserve. It sounds like you are about 40 miles short so maybe you did...

    Dealer feedback?

I dropped by the Richmond store on the way to the Dragon last year on my Vstrom and met the owner, he rides an AE. Since all you are interested in is price at this point ( and do they do the assembly right ) I am not so sure that you have to go so far from home. I was able to go the the...

Louisville, KY to Big Bend, TX

We entered Big Bend from the North and the town of Marathon. A map of the area can be found here: https://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/uplo...E_map1_2007.pdf Our first stop was at the Visitors Center where we learned that we were just past peak attendance and that now they "only see bikers"...

Louisville, KY to Big Bend, TX

Well my daughter was off to Paris, France for 9 days and the wife gave me permission to jet off on the FJR for a trip to visit my friend in San Antonio so we decided that I would ride to his house and then we would ride back to Arkansas to ride the Ozarks. He is a UPS pilot and was returning...

UK's bike magazine ranks FJR 2nd to last

So for $200 you can fix the biggest concerns of the reviewers and still have $6k to spend on all other kinds of things. I am a researcher and have to submit grant requests to organizations like the NIH and am used to dealing with critiques of knowledgeable people in the area. When I get...

    2007 Bag Liners

You should also have gotten a lock mechanism that you can place in the Yamaha Topbox so that all your hard cases are keyed the same. When I got my 07 the bags, lock and spacers to fill the holes in the sidecase mounting points were all in one bag.

    Eastern KY Ride Update

This is a very nice part of the state of Kentucky. The lodge at natural bridge has a very nice buffet dinner. Here is a link to some of the pictures I took of the Red River Gorge when I rode my Vstrom over last spring. https://mbrier.shutterfly.com/action/pictur...e21b3292b30c429

    Power Commander/G2

I added a G2 to my 07 in order to smooth out the addition of power in both low speed and normal cornering. It is my opinion that the G2 was successful in obtaining this goal and it was easy to install.

    Ducati Open House

I test rode the Hypermotard also and can only describe the ride as one of those IMAX experiences where all you see in front of you is the terrain (road) you are flying over. The way that you (I) sit on the bike is such that all you see is the road and you don't even see the bike. Very...

    KTM Super Duke Input

I test drove both the Ducati Hypermotard and the KTM SuperDuke before I got my FJR. The Superduke is a great bike and a fun ride. Engine is very smooth and shifts like a hot knife through butter. You should be able to find a dealer that offers test rides as they appear to be sponsored by the...

Rented an 05 today - need advice on second gen

jbh I also have a 650 vstrom and bought an 07 fjr as my second bike keeping the vstrom. The heat issue is not really that much of a problem on the 07 and this summer in Louisville I got a chance to really test it making multiple rides at near 100 degrees. I just had to have the windscreen in...

    Newbie questions

I think that the reason that people "lower" the bike is that they would like to easy the pain in their knees from riding a more aggressive style bike and to reach the ground with their feet.. The problem is that the "lowering" reduces turn clearance and I am guessing that is not something that...

Burgman 400 to FJR 1300AE …. Leap of Faith??

I think you have done this coming back to motorcycling thing wisely. Rather than pick a bike that was not going to be something to relearn your skills on easily, you picked a bike that was fun, met your stated purpose and allowed you to teach your body how to ride again. The big difference that...
