How could this cam chain tensionser

Glad you got it sorted DCarver and sorry I could not be of some assistance. I would have never thought that it would have more than one of those little buggers.

How could this cam chain tensionser

I could be mistaken as it has been a very long time since I made a cam chain adjustment, but I thin my XS-1100 had a similar designed CCT to the one you displayed. If I remember correctly, the bolt on the housing locked the plunger. To adjust you put some tension in the direction of engine...

Cruiser or Sportbike background? Why FJR now?

Dad bought me a little Honda Trail 50 when I was six or so. I rode the wheels off that thing. I had to give it up when we moved out of the country. Next motorcycle I purchased new in 1986. I was 18 years old and got an LTD 750. It was a fine bike, but I was never really impressed with it. I sold...

Don't use anti-seize on modern spark plugs

I like the article and it is very interesting. Thank you very much for posting this. While I value your opinion and respect it, I would like to disagree. One thing I noticed from the article was that in addition to large amounts of compound causing a problem in this vehicle they found a cracked...

Looking at a used 08, got a question about brakes

I have to agree with the above. The rear pedal feels pretty stiff and it will engage the ABS without a problem. Feeling when the ABS kicks in is another story. It takes a while to get a feel for the ABS kicking in. Until you get that feel, it would be really easy to think that the rear pedal was...

Brrrrr it's "chilly" and the bike won't start

I experienced "Fast Starter Syndrome" for the first and only time about a week ago with the outside temp around 50 degrees. Bike had not been started in a few days. Had to put it on the charger to get it going, then took it for a couple of hours worth of Bliss (ride). Seems to be fine now.

    Low compression. Head gasket failure?

If it was mine, I would shoot a squirt of oil into each cylinder. Then I would pull the ignition fuse and with the plugs out crank it a few times. I would then put the plugs in and give it a go. My bet is it will fire right up.

I needed to warm up the cylinders for a compression test

About a half cup of black powder in each cylinder should take care of all your problems. When it launches the head it might even fix your bulged fuel tank.

    Compression testing -

I would not crank the engine without oil. I would not have a problem Draining the coolant, changing the oil and filter, and running it long enough to fully prime the new filter and doing a compression test. My guess is you will notice compression problems even with the engine cold.

    Looking for other '05 owners

My 2010 quit pulling the front wheel off the ground while accelerating hard in first at around 5,000 miles. I assumed it was the suspension breaking in or the rear tire not gripping as well. I changed the plugs, even though they did not need it. I did another throttle body sync. I replace the...

    1st Thursday in Dec.

I am not riding mine as much. Mostly because of rain. I am in Illinois and it is some warmer here than where you are from. I will ride until the roads get slippery, then I usually put her in the garage until March.

2010 with hot feet, 2006 didn't have an issue

In the summer I feel a little heat on my left leg right above my boot. Does not bother me much because I know it is hot outside.

    Brake Pad Bolts

If you rounded out the inside of the hex bolt, I would think you need a better hex socket. If the fit is loose this can happen. Never rounded one out with a proper fitting hex key, but I guess it could happen.

    Oh Shit! OMG.....now what?!

While I am sure it is outdated information now that we have engineers that study metal coatings and know a lot more than I do. I have been taught and have always practiced, if the metals are not the same type they get anti-seize. If you have to be able to get it apart again, it gets anti-seize...

    Oh Shit! OMG.....now what?!

Sorry to hear that. I am really surprised that Yamaha will not do something for you. I guess it is what it is and it might be time to explore some other options. Have you thought about trying to find a shop, even an independent one, that is not insisting on pulling the head to fix this problem...

    Oh Shit! OMG.....now what?!

I agree. Get Yamaha's take on the situation. I would not trust a dealer to get the companies response to this situation, get it yourself. I bet they step up to the plate and repair this for you.

    fall maintenance

I did the same thing over the weekend. Mine has 8,000 miles on her. I noticed many of the same things you did. A couple of things you may want to look at: Clutch lever pivots Front Brake lever pivot Rear Brake pivot Shifter Lever Pivot It was unreal how gunked up the clutch lever and...

    Broken Key in Ignition

Straighten a small fish hook and use that. I have done this in other locks and it works okay.

Practicing panic stops on the FJR with ABS

I have felt the ABS kick in when breaking hard and downshifting at the same time. Used to have the rear wheel break loose under the same circumstances on the XS-11. So far the front has stayed pretty well planted. She slid a little at the front end when the stock tire was a little worn and...

    How To Verify Fan Operation?

I have a 2010. My fans come on when I have eight bars showing and shut off when it cools down to seven.
