I've also only ridden sport bikes my whole life and I still have my ZZR1200 which is supposedly a "Sport-Touring" bike as well but the FJR wins hands down for sports-TOURING, especially with a passenger. I drug the pegs on the FJR the day after I bought it and I've done it a few more times...

My FJR had 13,700 when I bought it and there was a Z4 on there. It was cupped and just about worn out but I pushed it to 15K miles before I replaced it with a new Z6. There was also a Z4 on the rear that appeared to have a couple of thousand miles on it, and it's getting within a grand or two...

My source has them for $6.94 each plus shipping. I usually order a bunch of stuff at once so the shipping is not that big of a deal with the money I save total from local bike stores.

Hijack hijack-Has anyone tried the Carbonne Lorraine pads on the FJR. I've got them on the shelf for my ZZR when the braided lines arrive but have not heard anything about them on the FJR. Side note, the stock brakes on the FJR are LIGHT YEARS ahead of the stock brakes on the ZZR. I checked...
