My wife's contemplating becoming a rider!

The Ninja 250 is a great starter bike. It's fast enough for the freeway and fun in the twisties if you upgrade the tires (On the stock rubber I would consistently slide both tires about a foot sideways before they would grip in a fast corner). It doesn't have much torque at low revs so it...

    Keep it??

Bulldog9, I know what you mean about wanting a bike with no plastic or windshield. Back in early 2006 when I was looking for a replacement for my '79 XS11 Special (my second) I wanted 4 cylinders, shaft drive, and no bodywork. I could get 2 out of 3 but not all 3 together. I found a 2003 FJR...

    Where do you park

I look for Mom and Pop motels that have poles holding up the overhang in front of the rooms. I lock the front wheel to the one closest to my room and forget about it for the night.

    New VFR--Love MY FJR

I think the category the new VFR falls in is "Gentleman's Express". It will appeal to people that want a refined high tech motorcycle.

    Bought a Honda Valkyrie

I was keeping my eyes open for a Valkyrie in 2006 when I came across my FJR. I was looking for a replacement for my aging 1979 XS Eleven Special. I'm really not a cruiser guy, I put low bars on the XS so it was more like a standard. Nobody was making the kind of bike I was looking for in '06...

    Bought a Honda Valkyrie

No, I'm not getting rid of the FJR. My GF rides a Heritage Softail and the kind of rides she likes to do aren't much fun on the FJR. Now I won't be as inclined to run off and leave her when the road gets twisty, although the Valk can really move when I want it to.

So...it's been about a year with my FJR

Re: #7 I have a 1st gen. and the headlights are really great. Maybe you need to adjust them. I've considered additional lights, but for cornering (there is no shortage of twisty roads around here, not trying to rub it in). I was going to aim them at around 45 degrees up and off to the left...

    Best year for FJR

I love my silver 2003. I haven't been on any other model so I can't give any advice on which is better. The silver doesn't show dirt as much as the darker colors, I can wipe off the mufflers and rims and the bike looks clean.

    Center Stand

I use the centerstand almost all the time. I've had a bike tip over on the right side from a flat rear tire, battery acid leaked, not pretty. I work at a machine shop, always finding pieces of steel in my tires. 3 of my last 4 rear tires needed to be replaced prematurely because of punctures...

    kickstand ???

Mine has worked fine so far. I've got a habit of pulling the bike backwards when I set it down on the 'stand to make sure it's fully deployed. Also, I don't park facing downhill.

    Saddlebags- On or Off?

I leave the bags and trunk on all the time to make me more visible to the cagers and invisible to the police.

    Question about Cold Tires

Tire air pressure drops about 1 psi per 10 degrees Farenheit, that would affect the handling. Filling the tires with nitrogen keeps the air pressure constant at any temperature. I would still be careful until the tires get warmed up.

    600 mile service

There's no need to loosen the oil drain plug or oil filter and make a mess. All you need to do is take the spray nozzle and straw from a squirt bottle (like windex or similar) and stick the straw into the oil fill opening and start pumping the excess oil into a small container. A syringe or...

    Defective Wix oil filter

I recently got back from a 6,250 mile 2 week vacation & needed to change my oil & filter. The auto parts store didn't have any Bosch filters like I've been using so they sold me a Wix. I changed the oil & filter & started the bike. A few seconds later I see oil running down from the oil...

    Dunlop has discontinued the D220

I have been using D220's for the last couple of tire changes and tried to get some new ones at my local dealer but he couldn't get any. I found a set by mail order and snatched them up. If you are thinking about getting some you better hurry before they're all gone. Brian
