    Coolant change

^^^ rats. I do coolant, plugs at valve clearance inspection intervals. ... haven't been stopped at roads' edge yet, 'cepting for flat tire.

Pin hole in rear PR 2!

a great solution. I'm lazier, though, and 'made the hole bigger' following directions on the sticky string plug kit. I just did this sequence on my FJR: then after 400 miles this is how the outside looked after the tire was used up this is how the inside end of the sticky string plug...

    Forks redone

Nice! If your relationship is very good with Race Tech Chile, maybe you could have them provide instructions to us northerners? ... my '04 forks seem to be doing well, though.

First Long Ride - looking for tips

tips? the wide version Cramp Buster, ~$13, slips over the throttle grip and helps w/ long periods of throttle. Bigger bike shops might carry it in stock. wide version is my preference camera deserves to be in a tank bag pocket, where you can get it and snap shoot w/o even getting off the...

Why am I getting such long tire life?

subject of some continuing low level discussion among us types in the 6K region ... One thought is that peeps in the NE and Midwest get higher mileage than the west, 'cause the roads are coarser asphalt out here, temps get higher and maybe speeds nudge higher. I've not ridden back there so...

    2004 To 2005

Also my opinion. Would be a no-brainer YES decision in my shop. I've an '04 non-ABS, also. Now think ABS isn't worth much until you need it, then it's worth mucho dinero.

    Pics, iridium plugs after 24,000

Some people work religiously to keep up with the Yamaha scheduled maintenance. I choose which ones to do; one I let go much longer is plug replacement. Just pulled the ‘long life’ iridium plugs @ 24,000 miles vs. the scheduled 8,000 mile plug change interval. Wanted to show you how they...

More affordable M/C rated oil - May '10

    1) Guys, the folks at Shell have done testing to label their truck oil Rotella 15W-40 as JASO MA wet clutch rated. I've been using it for long time, as others have, but that's not the point - the oil is now actually labelled JASO MA, which some people rely on... these bottles didn't used...

Reduced buzzy vibration by changing driveshaft oil

not for me - can't remember the earlier fluid, but the last one ~45,000 was Shell Rotella 80w-90 and I couldn't tell any difference.

167 miles two up my new FJR.

put the cramp buster (I'm talking about the 'wide' version) in a vice and appply hack saw to the right side to remove the bulge and small portion of the grip 3/4 circle (60 seconds). Use file to remove saw residue (30 seconds). You then have effectively moved cramp buster to the right and...

    A different North Cascades Loup

nice report - and terrifically impressed that you remembered the aspirin. who chased you about taking a photo of the Border / Customs building? US guys or Canucks? - there's no WA law against taking photos in our state.
