    Oil Drain Bolt Gasket

Per the Service Manual (change, if damaged); no need to change regularly. If yours is damaged, seek solutions, already offered (above).

    Mobile 1 Syn 5-30 O'Reilly Auto Parts $5.99/ 6 for 35.94

I'm guessing this is a 'heads-up' for car (or truck) oil; this isn't good stuff for your wet-clutch motorcycle. (Sams warehouse has 6 quarts for $34, everyday; if you have one near you)

Do I really have to "check and adjust valve clearance" at 27,000 miles?

I'm a low mile user (30,000 in ten years), an '04 (bought new), using toptier fuel, regular oil changes, etc. I'm going to 'roll the dice' and not do the check; my choice and my opinion. If I ruin or damage my engine I'll try to be up front and admit it (to the Forum) but I'm thinking I'm...

    Elkins WV Oct 20-24

Great roads just getting to Elkins, W.Va. I went to Davis and Elkins College ('68-'72).

Merging onto a Highway - "Rules of the Road"

I'm pretty much 100% with Fred on this one; the vehicle entering the highway has the obligation to adjust speed (to enter the highway). If it presents that the slow lane driver/rider (right lane for most of us) can move over to allow an easier merge (then that is an option) but maintaining...

I paid my now former dealer...

I never forsake a brand (because of a dealer; they are independent contractors). I hope this letter was just an adjunct to the letters you sent to the dealer (involved) and probably another sent to Yamaha. If you feel better venting (here), okay, but we only have your side of the story. I...

    Noisy new bike

Try to isolate the area of noise; does the noise remain or go away (while at speed at which the noise occurs) when you pull in the clutch?

    2004 won't start

You said you moved it after you had dried it off (did the move involve a startup?), if it did and you didn't run it too long, you might have had the 'cold start' flood problem reported here many times. Just a guess.

Help! Clutch slipping? Final drive issue?

Could an energy conserving oil (car engine oil) been used in an oil change? If that could be confirmed, I would change to a motorcycle oil or any recommended non energy conserving oil (check we have a gazillion oil threads here) before calling the clutch 'toast'. Wouldn't hurt to bleed the...

    New tires

PR2's do have a front tire hum; mine did it straight from the start. (they are a directional tire, if you have mounted them correctly they hum, if mounted wrong, perhaps hum more?) Check your arrows.

2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

Once again I live vicariously through the IBR riders (and staff); great luck to all that participate. And a thank you to all that contribute to this thread (and fjrforum that brings it to us). Salute!

    Centerstand fail-dropped my bike.

Rusted through or not, the '03 FJR has known issues with the center-stand. Maybe this post can be the poster-child for the remaining '03 owners out there to either avoid using the center-stand or have it replace or bracketed. Here's one link...

    New helmet idea

Not sure I want all that stuff in my field of vision; actually (personally) I don't want any of that stuff in my view. Others may find this a useful product though; and while not cheap, seems reasonable for a light weight carbon fiber helmet (taking into the HUD as the premium factor).

    Yamaha is smoking something...

Actually it is somewhat of a bargain; the price for the top-trunk has been 700 plus since introduction (summer 2003 for U.S.), so taking inflation into account, relative cost is down.

AC Delco Battery Sale 1/2 Price

Received mine last week. I added the electrolyte, charged overnight at 1 amp, installed and all is good (as expected). Time will tell; I have an '04 (almost ten years old, bought by me new) and this is the fourth battery. The original lasted 3 1/2 years, first Westco lasted 2 1/2 years and my...

    85 Octane in The FJR

Compression used to be the most common denominator in octane requirements. Modern engines have evolved, and even as compression still contributes as a factor, others include, combustion chamber design (and in some of the newer car engines, direct injection).

    85 Octane in The FJR

European (and other areas of the world used different octane numbers). We (U.S.) use Ron+Mon divided by two; some others use Ron (by itself). Ron - Research octane number Mon - Motor octane number

    85 Octane in The FJR

Actually high octane, energy density, is very slightly lower (but again another topic for a different thread); unless you engine requires higher octane (and can take advantage of it; these days, this usually means a knock sensor), stick with 87 (regular; that means 85, at altitude) for your...
