As Pickles correctly stated, the FI will not adapt to the extent you think it will. You're confusing the fixed mapping of the FJR with FI systems that have mass air flow sensors that are actually aware of increased flow through the engine and adapt by providing more fuel. Most slip ons provide...
The opinions you have received so far have not been from anyone who has owned a Gen I and a Gen II. I owned an '05 and presently own an '08. I sold the '05 because of the heat issue and wanted to upgrade to anti-lock brakes. I had performed all the heat fixes to the '05 including removing the...
My oldest OEM battery is in my 2001 Yamaha XT225. The battery was 10 years old this past January and is till going strong. All the bikes are stored in a temperature-humidity controlled environment; never colder than 58 never hotter than 78. They are all plugged into tenders when not being...
I have to join the raving fan club as well. Gary powder coated a few small pieces for me. The price was excellent, the turn-around was quick, and he is a pleasure and gentleman to deal with. THANK YOU! Chris
Brodie,
I installed your harness shortly after receiving it and it is a top quality piece of work. I'd like to order another one for my friend with an '06 who's not on this board. After me talking it up so much he's got to have one. Thanks, Chris.
I wanted to eliminate the cats. I used my decatted headpipe from my '05 as well. There is a 300 degree temperature difference where the cats are located in the headpipe (infra-red surface temp). I like to keep the heat down for summer riding and that's why I sold my '05; it threw too much...
The part numbers are different because '06 and up mufflers have cats in them in addition to the ones in the headpipe. Dimensionally, the Gen I mufflers will bolt right up. I have '05 mufflers on my '08.
I would definitely go with the Yamaha grips. It's a plug and play install, and they are far more sophisticated than the after market grips in that they tie into the ECU whereby the shut off if battery voltage drops too low and they take into account vehicle speed. They reduce voltage while...
I too have been watching the progress of this tank. You should give yourself a big pat on the back for an impressive job; you increased tank capacity while maintaining good looks. It looks very OEM! Congrats!
If he had the loaded map tweeked on a dyno, leave it alone. I always fine-tune the preloaded maps, and have always noticed a difference. It was money well spent as every bike will have slightly different optimal settings.
If I recall the conversation with the Yuasa engineer discussed in my previous post, batteries start to die when sulfation occurs. Sulfation starts when the voltage starts to drop. By keeping the batteries at optimal voltage, sulfation is greatly reduced; thus the longer life due to being...
Great job! Very impressive!. If you haven't sealed the inside of the tank yet I highly rec. the POR15 tank sealer. I've tried a few brands over the years and this stuff is the best. I think some BMW group also speaks highly of it for restorations.
I disagree with what that battery expert told you based on a conversation I had with an engineer from Yuasa and my personal experiences with AGMs and other lead acid batteries. All my motorcycles and my Mustang have battery tenders (not chargers) that are plugged in all the time when not being...
Actually, header wrap is not to hold the heat in the cylinder. The purpose of header wrap is two-fold- first, to hold the heat in to improve cylinder scavenging. If the exhaust in the header is giving up heat, the exhaust gas velocity is slowing down thus reducing scavenging which aids in...
If I recall correctly, back in 2005 Warchild suggested dumping the fork fluid at 8000 miles. I did that with my '05 and my '08, and am glad I did after seeing the discolored mess that came out. The second change on the '05 was much cleaner, as the break-in and machining debris was gone. I...
I strongly suggest you follow Bob's suggestion. You might have to get an impact socket to find a six pointer.
Wrapping electrical tape around the nut before installing the socket will also help prevent marring the nut. And obviously, anything more then one layer with the ends of the tape...
The Vibranator is everything they claim it to be. My Honda 919 was a very buzzy motorcycle; 40 miles on the highway and my hands were numb and tingling. After I installed the Vibranators I did 90 miles with no numbness or tingling. And it is more sophisticated than just bar end weights. If I...
