1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

Is there more to a Gen III shock than just a stiffer spring from the Gen II?

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

Just as an update on my endeavor, I am almost certainly going to have Jay at Sasquatch work on the bike. He is clearly very knowledgeable and experienced with FJRs and certainly sets the bar on customer service. I still haven't decided whether or not to rebuild the rear shock and add a beefier...

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

I think I am convinced. When you upgraded your rear, did you have to decide on a spring or does it come as a complete setup? Would you be able to supply me with some links to the parts? I'm still quite foggy what individual parts are serviceable or upgrade-able and what ones you switch out as a...

That video was awesome! Really makes the servicing look do-able at home. Hard part is going to be deciding what parts to use. Thanks.

Any idea when that usually is? I suppose I can get a few hundred more miles out of mine before upgrading. Would be nice to see how it's done too.

Thanks for that. I was already writing my post that follows yours when you posted it. I keep hearing the same song "...money well spent" when it comes to aftermarket suspension. Perhaps I will stop in at a dealer tomorrow and find out what all the parts for a Gen III replacement as well as full...

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

I just spent 90 minutes reading that thread that HaulinAshe posted about preload and now I am way more confused. Yea no doubt I am going to notice night and day difference once I get new shocks - even if they are stock. No matter what I buy, it's going to be significant coin so I really want to...

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

Hi all. After reading the Bin-O-Facts from start-to-finish, spending hours combing through threads on various forums/sites and consulting with a fellow rider, I’ve decided to put it out there and see what others have to add. I have a 2009 that is about to turn 100,000 kms (okay, a Canadian...

    Small Magnetic Tank Bag recomendations

I second the Cortech Super 2.0 vote.Durable and well designed. Although I like the 12L size as is turns into a backpack. I'm not anal at all about ensuring there is no FOD on the tank or bag either and after 60,000 miles on a black tank, there isn't a scratch to be seen.

The Really, Definitely Completely Un-Authorized TBS

Haven't had a of opportunity to review this until today. Thanks for taking the time to respond in detail and your explanations certainly clear up most of my questions. i particularly benefited from how you described how the the throttle body plates and adjusters work. Thanks again

Close Call and I am still Here

Agreed! I replaced my horn 2-3 years ago with this one: https://www.harborfreight.com/bad-boy-air-horn-94117.html This horn is ridiculously and amusingly loud and I do not use it sparingly. ANY time I see someone waiting to pull out into traffic or change lanes that I believe may not see me, I...

Sena SMH10 will not power up.

This happened to me the other day. I took it apart and unplugged the battery - thinking I may need a new one. When I plugged it back in, it worked fine. Just a loose connection I suppose.

Well you have to understand that the inner workings of what is going on is new to me. If this was normally aspirated, I may not be as out to lunch. Don't forget, you did say "It's much better for folks to be actually thinking (you remember how to do that?) about what it is they are doing, or...

Bad luck comes in three's. No more taking the I5.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The tire had lost air the next morning (12 psi) so I filled it and checked again an hour or so later; again, had dropped to 15 psi and the tire was warm and gummy. I stopped at a great bike store in Portland and after pricing a new PR 4 at $400 CDN, I decided on...

    rebuild at 30,000 miles?

I'm glad to read someone else perplexed about their shocks as I also am. I've literally been wondering about my shocks for thousands of miles - not because there feels to be anything wrong with my bike but rather because of the number of times I have read: "shocks are the best upgrade for your...

Bad luck comes in three's. No more taking the I5.

So I'm returning home from a trip down the coast on the 101, heading north on I5 just north of the airport at Grant's Pass in Oregon. I began to recall the previous two times I was here - ironically in July of last year and the year before. The first trip, I got off an exit at Wolf Creek to get...

well, you're probably right. I re-sync'ed it and didn't have to make much of a change. Tonight I went for a long ride and the bike seemed fine. Still seems sluggish from when I first bought it but perhaps it's the 50,000 age or mt ever-increasing fat ***. Thanks again.

The Really, Definitely Completely Un-Authorized TBS

Unfortunately, I need to make a bit of an update regarding my observations with my recent sync. The other day I went for another drive, significantly longer and higher speed one than the one I had done when I posted my previous observations. I noticed the bike didn't seem quite as smooth as the...
