Almost the route I rode this morning. Too bad we missed each other. Mine was 80 to Foresthill Road to Mosquito Ridge to Hell Hole Reservoir/French Meadows to Wentworth Springs Road towards Ice House Road - last 50 yards or so of Wentworth Springs Road before Ice House had deep snow (complete...
Almost zactly the same scenario as my low-side a couple of years ago - gravel/sand color blended perfectly with the road surface. My failed jacket left a nice bit of rash below the elbow on my forearm. About 95% sure I separated a shoulder too, but it healed on its own. Glad to hear your...
Couldn't find the thread to link it, but at least one FJR battery has had a cell ONLY show weakness once it warmed up. Resulted in the same symptoms as a battery crapping out, but load tested fine. Also, here's a link to a few people who have had the battery post break off INSIDE the battery (no...
0-60 in less than 3 seconds is WAY more impressive than elapsed time for 0-100 (Basically, we can KILL cars like Vettes 0-60, but they can blow by us above that) Plus, the Prius (pronounced "pious")-driving Berzerkeley crowd who'll be looking can't relate to triple-digit speeds anyway. Add in...
No worries. Glad you found 'em cheap. If you find yourself knocking off pegs with the stockers, the shorter dogbones (which raise the rear) I have on the shelf should still be around. They solved my peg issues until I finally did it right and bought aftermarket suspension.
Try here for Yamaha parts: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=102438
Looked up the parts - all of $36 - $38 for 2 new OEM dogbones:
17 ARM 1
5JW-2217M-00-00 2 $18.97 $18.02
If you don't want to pony up <$40 to go stock, do you want to try my old WHA links? They...
Bad idea - Fookers can fly (and are probably heavy enough to skin you right off your bike)
Semi-related story - I obliterated an owl I'd guess weighed about 10# - Hit him going about 60 mph with my right knee - Hip joint and knee ached for 3 days afterward. Wouldn't care to find out how much...
Good GAWD, I'd hope so. You have to pass Roseville to get to all those tasty mountain roads -- not to mention Roseville Yamaha, where the service manager rides an FJR and takes good care of us.
Thanks much for setting this up, Rich. It was indeed great to see folks I haven't had a chance to see and ride with in a while. And the newbies all seem to be pretty good folks too, although one had an odd-looking FJR (BMW R1200, I believe). Jason's was an excellent choice for lunch and you even...
When DCarver realized he'd followed the wrong bike off the highway, I offered him a place to crash for the night, but I think he remembered I have small, energetic children, so he decided to 'wing it' and go to Fairfield in search of Bokerfork. We trekked through Roseville to get to a Westbound...
+ 1 on the skullcandy, although I spring for the spendier ones now (better sound). I've also found their foam earpieces tend to stay in place much better than the slicker silicone buds, so keep an eye out for those.
considering what it costs to have the shop do it, the spanner is cheap and more than pays for itself with 1 session. there's also a local FJR Forum guy who is making a castle nut socket that is tres manifique! do a search on the forum to find it. Cool, I'll check 'em out.
BanjoBoy, I've got...
I had Penske 8983 and whole new front done a couple years ago. Very good experience w/ GPSuspension.
I was really freaked about spending that kind of money on a bike I thought was already on rails, but made a HUGE improvement in handling and road feel.
Nice ride report, OM. I haven't been on 36 in a couple of years - Your pics show that will need to be remedied. 50s-70s sounds close to perfect temperature-wise, too.
I'll just have to copy our old Labrador's technique on slipping the leash...
