You can create a route on your PC and download it to your Zumo. You can also ride a route that you like with the Zumo turner on and log the route and turn the track log into a route. I just did this and it was very easy.

I did mine at home . It is a very easy process. Took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. Remove the seat, remove the tool tray under the seat, remove the left side panel, unplug the ECU. Change it (2 screws hold it onto the bottom of the tool tray) and put everything back together...

I just put one on my 06 and if fixed the same problem you are looking to fix. Its an easy install and well worth it. I say go for it.

The tank holds 6.5 gal and mileage is 35 to 50 MPG depending on how you ride. I usually stop for gas around 200 to 250 miles.

I have a Wing and you will love it! The GL1800 Riders board is the best place to get Goldwing info. Its the Goldwing equivelent of this forum.
