    Helibars and wwire looms

Owen, thanks for your kind offer, but unfortunately it's too late, I successfully installed the Helibars yesterday. But I'll make you a good deal on the OEM clamp... And a set of cut up cable looms. I took the bike out for a little toot around town last night, also making this the second ride...

    Helibars and wwire looms

Thanks. I actually just found them buried on a workbench. They won't be re-used-- there is nothing about the mounting alignment of the looms to the Helibar that even remotely lines up. So I'm diving in, no looms.

    Helibars and wwire looms

I'm sitting on a stool in my garage looking at the installation instructions for my new Helibars and it looks like the stock wiring/hydraulic line wire looms are used along with the Heli's. But my problem is that I don't seem to still have the wire looms from when I removed them to install bar...

    Shoei Neotech

I tried it on at a local shop. XL fits well, just like the Multitec I've worn for 5 years. For my melon head, I'll need to buy a set of thinner cheek pads, same as I had to do with the Multitec. For the Multi, I needed 2 sizes thinner on the pads. The XXL helmet was too big overall, the XL...

Police over here get the message.

Edinburgh, Scotland, on a trip September 2011. I know that I own the right bike, but seeing Scotland's finest riding them made me smile. One night watching local TV in the hotel room, we watched a reality show of Scottish emergency personnel doing their thing. One segment of the show...

    Has anyone lowered their FJR?

I have no experience with lowering the FJR, it's height is okay for me (30" inseam). I did lower my previous ride, an '07 Suzuki VStrom 650. I used a similar lowering link to bring that bike down 3/4" at the rear, and then lowered the front end by the same amount (raising the fork tubes in the...

Pelican vs Storm, the same thing, only different

I used top loading Pelican 1430 (small) and 1440 (large) as side cases on my VStrom 650 and they were bombproof. The 1550 as a top box is a wonderful way to go, just keep in mind you can't stash a helmet in this box, though, if that is important to you. And it is heavier than just about any...

    Vented Summer Riding Pants? Options?

If you're going au naturale under those vented riding pants, I'd second the notion of Motorport air mesh kevlar. Comes as both an overpant and a jeans-style. Taking a spill without something between you and the nylon as it melts against the pavement you are skidding across... You'll have a...

    Final Drive Fluid....

Friction makes heat. Reduce the friction, reduce the heat. Measure the heat with one of those fancy electronic thermometer gun thingies, or even use a sacrificial meat thermometer and stick it right in the rear drive oil itself- careful, you'll probably force a teaspoon or so of oil out as you...

Just Ponied Up for A Russell Day Long

It's been a couple months now, but I took the photos they wanted of me sitting on the bike- set up my camera on a tripod, with the tripod height set at the height of my hip as I sat on the seat. Sent the application and photos to their website, then they contacted me telling me the build date...

Just Ponied Up for A Russell Day Long

Funny you wrote this in... at about the time you were posting this message, I was just installing my new RDL onto my bike for the first time. It's winter here, riding season for me waits until the road salt is gone, but in the few minutes I sat upon the Russell Day Long out in the garage, I...

HA! My rebuild is scheduled for Jan 4, I'll ship it off this week. My butt can't wait. Regardless, its first ride won't be until March or April, as soon as the rain washes away the road salt.

Helibars holiday pricing thru Dec 23, 2011

I found at the Helibars website a link for holiday sale price discounts. It takes you to this page, https://www.helibars.com/holiday-coupon-code-offer In the process, it puts you on their email list- oh, well. $15 off $150, $25 off $250, and $50 off $500. I've got no affiliation, but this is...

    Largest Luggage

You're sliding forward on the seat while riding? Hmmm, I wonder what's causing that? Did they Armour All the seat for the sales floor? I will say, though, that when I've washed my riding pants (Aerostich Darien pants) with the special detergents made for these materials, then also follow-up...

    Largest Luggage

Well done! Did you get the seat figured out? The Sargent will lock into position just like the OEM rider's section does. It does on my bike (2010). And if your legs are long enough, try the higher seat position, too. That bit of boost gives your knees just a little more of an open angle...

    Largest Luggage

Caribou Cases makes mounts for most of the adventure/sport bikes to mount their customized Pelican boxes. At their site is a PDF showing their thoughts on packing side-loading cases to help keep the contents from tumbling all over the place. They use the scenario of camping equipment, but...
