Many good points here...nothing that hasn't been said before... Learn the skills involved in riding and maintain them; learn the machine, stay alert, take advantage of available safety gear and use common sense to avoid problems. Well, I guess that's it then... If it were only that easy...

Dealers in this area, I have found, will let you test ride their used bikes..only exception I have come across is a local Guzzi dealer; he'll let you test drive a new bike, assuming you have the usual endorsements...(motorcycle license/insurance/etc).

Don't forget their chick-magnet....

In Texas, if you wreck your bike driving out of the dealership's parking lot, they help you.... -into the service dept. No license check, no insurance check, as long as you have *their check* made out for the bottom line of the invoice! As a result, we have our usual share of 18 - 21 year olds...
