    Cam Chain Tensioner revised again?

My x-ray vision isn't working well this morning, but it looks to me like the plunger moves on a helical guide that is forced outward by a spiral spring. When cold, the plunger won't back off any further than allowed by the play in the helical guide. Look at the photo in post #17 of this thread...

    Cam Chain Tensioner revised again?

Playing with the new tensioner, I don't think you have to be concerned that it will retract in that circumstance. It'll be interesting to compare this tensioner to the one installed in my '06.

    Cam Chain Tensioner revised again?

The CCT has a new part number and now sports a green dot. Not a blue dot. The new number is 1MC-12210-00-00, the old number is 5JW-12210-01-00. To my naked eye, excepting the color of the dot, it looks like the old one.

    Quick question: Which Mobil1?

Thanks to both of you for clear, concise replies. I would not have strayed far off course, as my plan was to find a Mobil1 that is NOT energy conserving. I've always tried to find one that has the upper temp. range of 50, basically not worrying about the lower limit range. My bike is more...

    Quick question: Which Mobil1?

Service SJ? Or something else? Please, please, no oil controversy. I just want to know which Mobil1 I should buy at the auto parts store today... local WalMarts don't carry a suitable Mobil1. Thank you in advance. Just a single knowledgible reply will suffice. I tried search...

'06 temperature gauge high when bike is not moving

Lately, it seems my bike reaches higher temperatures according to the gauge when I'm stuck in traffic. Once moving the bike runs at what I consider historically normal temperatures; in fact, the temperature drops amazingly quickly to normal once the bike is moving. A couple of times recently...

    2011 Kawasaki Ninja 1000

Has anyone with a Ninja 1000 found a way to put a real seat on one? My passenger would refuse to ride on that seat.

I just changed my oil.... and......

Lacking a photo, I still say it's the "protector" as you are calling it. Throw the bike away and get another. I'll take the old one off your hands. Free.

    FJR Winter Storage

Well, I give you high marks for originality and creativity. :) But, what are you putting your bike into storage anyway? There's no winter where you live.

    Trailering a new FJR

I'm with Fred regarding tieing off to the handle bars. Canyon Dancers might be fine for light weight bikes, but not for 600+ pound ones, IMO. The problem with tieing down plastic clad bikes is keeping straps whose the other end attaches to the trailer floor usually means the strap contacts the...

    FJR Winter Storage

Yeah, rotate the wheels daily. Change the oil before and after storage longer than a week. Change the air in the tires every 1000 miles maximum. Remove the battery when you get home from a ride, reinstall the next morning. Gas goes bad after a week. Sheesh. Don't you people have anything...

Do you hear a clack clack ?

Dunno if this helps, but when I shut off my bike and coast slowly to a stop I hear a faint (clack clack?) sound about identical to doing the same thing on my chain drive bike.

Can the linked brakes be unlinked?

I prefer unlinked brakes as well and I think you've outlined the problems/issues of attempting to unlink them after engineers have carefully designed the syatem and test riders have, well, tested them. For those reasons, mine will remain linked. OTOH, a manufacturer who comes up with a better...

Barbarian Jumper Great Slow Speed Lay Down Bad Need Parts

The bolded situation is a bit unusual and therefore catches even veteran riders unawares. U-turns on tilted surfaces are tough and best avoided. Glad it wasn't worse.

    BACKREST

The back rest is well made, but it is too far back for my passenger to use. As soon as she tries to move back far enough to use it, I detect too little weight on the front wheel and tell her to move forward. She just told me I might as well remove it semi-permanently. It makes a nice forward...

    FJR1300 vs ST1300 vs Concours 14

I'm not planning to change bikes either, but I have noticed my FJR brakes are not very good when you're really trying to stop fast. I may consider updating to an '08 though if Yamaha really improves the brakes.
