New Florida Laws in Effect-$1000 fines

But that's the point, isn't it? It won't affect 99% of all riders, only the ones that need the attention. I actually like the improperly affixed plate law (not so much the fine), but considering most stunters put the plates under the shock so it can't be read, this will allow officers to tag...

Black Foam Sponge Under Oil Filter

I use plastic wrap instead, it doesn't scratch the paint like foil can.

TV - Worried about the Feb '09 switch to digital?

That was funny!!! I know at least a half dozen people just like that lady!

Remember those huge foam airplanes sold in the malls?

My 10 year old kid is really getting into playing with electric motors and using them to power his Legos and such. I remember around 25-30 years ago (and more recently too) some guy in a kiosk at the mall with those foam airplanes with like a 3-4' wingspan that would flip them in the air and...

Black Foam Sponge Under Oil Filter

That's there for when you put in too much oil. It soaks it up as a reserve, then leaves puddles on your garage floor to make you think you have a leak. It IS Friday after all!!! Seriously, it is merely an anti-vibration piece for the fairing. You'll find when you remove that side panel of the...

    Don't do this!

Tasers would have possibly worked, but actually having some training in how to restrain/control people would have been more beneficial IMO.

    Grip Warmers

I wouldn't have wired them directly to the battery, I would have done it through a switched fuse panel, but that's just me. As for the fastener, there are several throughout the bike, including along the side rails of the seat that you can swap them out with. I have personally ordered bags of...

    AE and ignition switch failures

My ignition switch failure had nothing to do with water. In fact, of all the ignition switch failures posted thus far, only a few were related to a dirty ignition (water, etc). The overwhelming majority are a result of the solder joint failing.

    Saddlebags

When I got my 06, I saw several threads from folks mentioning the need to Loctite the bag lock screws. When I read it, I was one of the folks that thought everyone else was being paranoid and that this would never happen to my bike. I remember about 5 months later going up to the bike to put...

    Found out the hard way

Really?? I guess I didn't read the instructions, but I will never run my compressor with the engine off for fear of getting the flat fixed only to have a dead battery! My Slime pump is connected to my BlueSeas box in the tail and I have always started the bike. My only advice for the Slime pump...

    need electrical help.

Remember, if you don't intend to install heated grips, there is a power source right there for you! The factory heated grips plug is under the left side dash near the glove box. It is fused, powered with the key, and unless you have other farkles planned, should be sufficient and convenient.

OK, I took it off the bike.....

Except the one in the picture below is a T-50, not a T-45. It goes right here (click image to enlarge):

    Fuses on a barrier strip?

No, that's not good at all. Especially considering he probably had the barrier strip fused with a 10A to 30A fuse. For example, a GPS or radar detector only needs/wants a 3A fuse. Thus, an overload on the GPS/radar detector would fry the GPS/radar detector before blowing the 10-30A fuse.

    Found out the hard way

Your Slime pump is rated at less than 3amps?? That would be surprising! Mine draws around 8amps. There have been countless posts about not using the stock outlet for anything other than a cell phone.

Why Men Don't Write Advice Columns

I was just about to post this joke, but did a quick search and found it had been posted. Do I get a prize for searching?? Funny advice though.

    Frame Sliders

There are so many other reasons a bike accidentally ends up on its side. I have never dropped my bike either, but then again, I haven't crashed my FJR, but I still have insurance for it. Many folks here have had their bike tip over in the garage after a flat tire, kids, wife hitting it with a...
